Getting into Duke should always be considered a reach. Nearly every applicant has excellent stats and ECs, and they received over 35K applicants last year while admitting only 3200. That’s an admission rate of 10%.
Your chances of getting into UNC depend on your residency. If you’re an NC resident, I think you have a great chance at getting in. If you are not an NC resident, UNC should be considered a reach for you, because, by law, UNC is restricted from having more than 18% of the enrollment be non-state residents.
Did you post your gpa…is your IB PG 45 your gpa (sorry I don’t understand)? Does your school have Naviance?
Duke will always be a reach unless you are hooked (a recruited athlete etc). The acceptance rate is under 10%. If somebody applies ED then the acceptance rate is higher.
UNC will always be a reach for OOS students who are not hooked (recruited athlete, child of a celebrity etc). If you live in NC your chances are higher if you are from one of the underrepresented areas of the state…but you seem to be a strong student regardless.
I am an out of state student. My school does not calculate GPA. It only does the International Baccalaureate and does not convert IB grades to GPA.
Both of these schools are reaches. It doesn’t mean that you should not apply, but it does mean that you should also apply to schools that are affordable and likely to accept you. Good luck!
