Chances of getting into Penn State Altoona as an Adult Student

Long story short, I’m trying to get into Penn State Altoona as an adult student. (I’m 22 and they told me I’d be an adult student.) As far as I know, they told me SAT scores have no effect at all on adult applications, so a high SAT score won’t help me in the slightest. My problem is that I dropped out of school at the start of 11th grade (I failed 10th once) and had poor grades throughout high school. My GED score is fairly high, being in the 93+ percentile for most subjects.

I also already have a fairly decent personal statement written. I talked to one of the adult admission counselors and they told me to not let high school grades deter me from applying, but I wanted a legit answer. Do I actually have a shot at getting in, or is community college the only way?

I do think you have a shot. I’d apply. PSU Altoona is fairly lenient with grades in adult students. If your GED score is high and you have a compelling personal statement then I think you have a shot. If you don’t get in, you can always do a CC and transfer to Altoona or Main campus after 2 years. (I think you could transfer into Altoona after a year actually)
