Chances of getting into Penn State main [PA resident, 3.63 GPA]

Have a 3.74 weighted and 3.63 unweighted applied test optional, early action, undecided, and applied summer session for first choice. Also in state, Ok extra curriculars, already got into Pitt main which has similar acceptance rates

Summer session first choice will make this a low match/likely. Now you need to wait till Dec 20…

Why would doing summer session first choice make it unlikely get in and why do I have to wait till dec 20?

The opposite: low match/likely means it changes a reach to a match, but even more likely than a match (hence “low match/likely”).

Likelihood order is this
Safety → sure thing
Likely
Low match
Match
Low reach
Reach
High reach → basically impossible

December 20-22 are the last days when Priority applicants are likely to hear (they might go to the 23th). Of course you may hear before then! :grinning::crossed_fingers:

Oh ok so like I have a good chance? Basically little less than a safety? And so basically I should hear back around dec 20?

Also does improvement help, my gpa for freshman, sophomore, and junior was: 3.08,4.1,4.1

Yes, 60-40 or even 70-30 :grinning::muscle:
And yes you should hear in less than 2 weeks if you applied by Nov1.
Don’t forget to update your thread with the decision, it’s always useful for current sophomores and juniors trying to gauge their chances or elaborating an application strategy.

Ok thanks! if i were to get rejected what would the easiest majior to get in with for reconsideration?

You wouldn’t be rejected if you applied Priority, you’d be offered a Branch campus.

For reconsideration, the “easiest” major is the one that combines “less competitive” (= less requested) with your academic interests and personal strengths.
So, if you took Spanish 4 or AP, applying for the Spanish major would be the best choice - but if you only took Spanish 1&2, it wouldn’t. If you coached little kids and taught Sunday school to 8-10 year olds, Elementary Ed would be a good choice, but if you’ve shown zero interest in little kids, likely not. Etc etc.

I meant like if I get branched what major could I do to get into UP via reconsideration.

And I also meant like the least competitive major

As mentioned above it depends on your strengths.
Some majors are only easy to get into if you have a certain profile.
Like, Russian is not competitive but unless you have a proven record of excellence in advanced foreign language and a reason to be interested in Slavic/Russian studies, it’s so difficult you won’t get in.

I see, what about like agriculture, also my friend last year got branched but after he applied for geology and got in UP with a 3.2

If you really want a usable answer, please give information regarding highest math, highest foreign language, science classes taken, any AP.
The easiest major for you to get into will depend on these variables.
Without them there’s no sweeping “easy in all cases” major.
AG is easier if you have the science background.
Your application doesn’t stand a chance for Geology if you don’t have Precalculus and at least 3 units of science (preferably bio, chem, physics+1 more) as those are mandatory pre-reqs.

For ag I do have a little bit of science I took biology, chemistry, and physics. Biology I got a B and chem and physics both As. I also took AP environmental science and got a B in that class. For geology I am taking pre calculus now but they wouldn’t be able the grade I get until the end of the year

In Ag, Bio renewable systems or food science both have solid professional outcomes and would be appropriate for your science background and grades.
In EMS, Geoscience perhaps. They may take longer because they’d want a math SAT or precalculus grades (which they wouldn’t have, though you could still try to include your first quarter results perhaps?)

Yea I could but I didn’t do the best the first quarter but I did get an A in biology of aquatic sciences. Is there a way where I could just send that class grade or I have to send like all of the courses I’m just scared that they would see the other grades and it would hurt my chances.

Then just apply to Food science or Biorenewable Systems

Sorry to keep asking questions but what would be less competitive out of those two?

Biorenewable systems has less math so they’d be less concerned about your precalculus grade, so that’s what I’d go with. :+1:
