Chances of getting into Princeton/Yale/Harvard for PoliSci?

It has been my life’s dream to to go to Yale, Princeton, or Harvard, but mainly Yale. My parents both graduated from state schools, so no first-gen student thing here. No legacies except UPenn Law from a grandfather, so none of those either. I’m from Long Island, in a very diverse (not all one race or one minority, but half white, a quarter hispanic, and a quarter black) district. (Very overrepresented area unfortunately)

I’m 25% Puerto Rican, if that counts for “two or more races.”

Here we go:

4.0 GPA, 4.7 weighted GPA

APs: 9 APs, all 5’s except for three 4’s (AP Calc, APWH in sophomore and AP chem in soph. as well)
APWH
AP US History
AP physics
AP Chem
AP Lit
AP Comp
AP Gov and Politics
AP Bio
AP Calc

CLEP Spanish & Latin also.

Music:
Orchestra 4 years (first chair violinist)
NYSSMA participant
SCMEA participant
LISFA participant
String Ensemble 3 years
President of Orchestra
(My school’s a Grammy Award school or something like that)

Clubs:
Model UN Team (went to Nationals for 3 years) 4 years
Mock Trial - Lawyer position (award-winning team) 4 years
Debate Club – leader (in for 4 years, leader for two)
FBLA – Secretary (in FBLA for 3)
Worked on school’s award-winning newspaper for 3 years also

Out of School:
VERY involved in church & youth group

Honor Societies:
Spanish HS
NHS
Service HS
Tri-M Music HS

Sports:
Varsity Crew for all 4 years

SATs/ACTs/SAT II’s
1950 SAT score
32 ACT
780 Bio “M” SAT II in 9th grade
750 Chem SAT II
800 Spanish SAT II
There are some others that were in the high 600’s and low 700’s as well.

All of my Regents exams were over 94, except Chem (91)

Community Service:
Over 100 hours of community service (mainly at local animal shelter) since 9th grade
Raised money through my own charity called “Anklets for Africa” HIV/AIDS orphan support

I took Spanish (perfect SAT II) all through middle and high school (99 on Regents) and Latin for 3 years in high school.

I’m ranked 5th in my class of about 450.

Many awards from music to academics to crew.

My essay should be pretty solid.

My Gov teacher/Mock Trial coach, English/Journalism teacher, and crew coach will be writing my recs.

I have worked in the restaurant industry since 9th grade.

My family is middle-class, I’m not “underprivileged,” and though I am a quarter Hispanic, I am dirty blonde/green eyed (haha) so I never suffered any racism/bias.

I am probably going to major in Political Science, but I may switch to US History instead.

My school does offer IB, but I chose not to do it

Thanks so much for reading this long, long thing and please answer my question… can I get into Yale/Harvard/Princeton? If not, any advice?

PS I will be applying to Harvard early decision (because I can’t be bound to Yale or Prince if I get in because of the crazy tuition, I qualify for Harvard 10% of income tuition)

Forget about HPY

Go to Mohawk College or something

Don’t listen to Korean. Give it a shot - you don’t have the best shot, but it’s definitely worth trying.

There’s no Harvard early decision.

Raise your SAT scores

You’ll be rejected with that SAT score.

I don’t know… he might have a shot. With a hook like being a URM, you never know.

Even with URM status which my or may not be granted, these schools want a minimum of 2100.

don’t send the SAT or raise it to a 2200. the 32 on the ACT is… a little below average but not as detrimental as your SAT. so send in your ACT if you can’t raise your SAT.

is there anything else you accomplished in violin? your music ECs won’t get you very far, though I know you are a good player.

low chances for HYP, but I’d say your chances aren’t non-existant. look for some other schools.

Wow, korean_dreamer, that’s really mean and pathetic.

Anyway, yeah I am definitely going to raise my SAT score, been getting coaching and stuff. HPY are my stretch schools, also applying to American, SUNY Bing - instate resident, SUNY Albany, Penn State, and Georgetown (another reach)? Does anyone know of my chances for those?

Just in case you didn’t read my first comment I want to remind you that Harvard doesn’t have early action or early decision anymore.

Just try to raise your ACT score, you take that test better. Don’t submit your SAT. You would have stronger chances if maybe you got recruited for crew? If youre good, contact the coaches.

And Harvard doesnt have ED. Yale has SCEA, but thats it out of those three. Everything else is RD.

Ok thanks JamesChang and vbplayer. Based on my PSATs and what my SAT tutor says, I can probably get it up to 2200 (I took that 1950 one in 10th grade, a little too early!)

I hope you are attending one of these schools Yalebound.

Thanks LaBelleVie, I’m going to UVA actually, I was waitlisted at Princeton but I decided I didn’t want to bother waiting anyway :)
