My gpa was ruined my junior year of high school and I have better chances of getting into other colleges but San Diego State is my dream school. What are my chances? I know it’s not likely I will get in but I would like to hear the opinions of other people.
SAT (old): 1440
GPA: 3.0
I’ve been accepted into FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). Will that help me get in?
Is your GPA of 3.0, your CSU GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
SDSU like all the CSU’s except SLO, use an eligibility index to rank applicants by major.
(CSU GPA X 800) + (SAT Math + CR).
Calculate your Eligibility index.
You want to aim for a 4100 or higher to have a solid chance at an acceptance. If you a local applicant, your EI threshold could be lower.
What other schools do you have on your list? How would SDSU know you have been accepted to FDIM? And why would they care? They have no major applicable to Fashion Design/Merchandising.
I thought that when you apply you have a brag sheet? My counselors are going to talk about college application information so I don’t have one clue of what to do and what to expect. And my major for FIDM is marketing. What happens if my El threshold is low?
SDSU like all Cal States do not accept Letters of Recommendations. They also do not consider EC’s and do not have any essays. Your acceptance is based on your academic stats, HS course rigor and Geographic location (in-service area/local or in-state California) get priority. You can apply, but if you are below 3900 minimum for local applicants, your chances are very slim.
From SDSU website:::
SDSU attracts highly qualified students each year. For fall 2016 admitted freshmen, the averages were:
3.85 high school GPA
27 ACT (not including writing)
1174 SAT reasoning (critical reading and math)
Thank you! I am also applying to Cal State Fullteron, Northridge, and University of San Diego.
Your chances are better for Cal State Northridge, especially if you are local. Cal State Fullerton is probably a 50/50 chance. USD looks like a Reach based on GPA and Test scores. You might want to consider some of the other Cal States such as San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose, Channel Islands and Dominguez Hills. What is your Eligibility index and what is your local CSU?
My local CSU is San Jose State, I am applying there too but I will most likely get in so I want to go away from home. Before I calculate my eligibility index, will colleges accept my GPA from senior year? How much will my overall GPA raise if my overall GPA from the past three years is a 3.0 combined but my GPA senior year is a 3.6.
Senior year grades are not included in the CSU GPA calculation 10-11th grades only. You have to apply by Nov 30th so Senior grades are not available when admission decisions are being made.
