Chances of Getting Into the Best US Universities

Hi guys,

My name is Alexandra, 23 years old. I would like to ask you if I have some chance to get into the best Universities in US like Harvard, Princeton, Yale… I am talking only about these 6 Universities which have a broad program of sponsorship full scholarships for international students. I am talking about:
Amherst College
Dartmouth College
Harvard University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Princeton University
Yale University

Ok, something about myself… I am fluent in 4 languages - Polish, English, Spanish and German. I will have great references from 3 teachers of Spanish, English and German as a proof of my knowledge. I am native speaking of Polish. I still work on my SAT, the date is coming closer but of course I do understand the great score on SAT is essential. I think I should not have any problem with getting good score in English section and essay because I have a large vocabulary ( learning dictionaries for memory!) and I am also a kind of writer. My other achievements are books. I wrote two books - one novel 350 pages MicrosoftWord format, the type of fantasy for teenagers, and the second one - drama book for adults, also a kind of fantasy connected with the war of independence of Mexico, so I guess it’s also historic book. The books are written in English. I am planning to sell them as e-books and promote them a bit before applying to Universities. Also, I am freelancer model. I am on runway and I do some cash on it, but it’s not easy to become a super model and make sufficient salary to live. Anyway, my biggest dream is getting into great University and make stable money to support my family. I am also thinking to open my startup, I have some ideas, so I am very dynamic person and I would like to study Bank Investment or Finance, something what will give me money in the future. The literature path or modeling is good when you are lucky, but the harsh reality shows that not everybody is getting succeed easily.

I want to ask you guys what do you think about my portfolio for any of these Universities…Apart of great SAT score and good GPA from my country. I am not any highly-qualified guy to become an engineer… Apart of that I am female and I have less chances to get some grants, however I want to ask you what do you think about my situation.

I seriously consider going to Princeton. That would be the best option for me since I am living in NYC area. Do you think that I have some chances?

Well, my story is also hard. I came here some time ago… I needed to work for cash to support myself. I was doing all the worst kind of jobs and right now I am working really hard to get great score and try my chances in the University. However, I dont know if I have chance…

No SAT, no chances.

Come back after taking SAT.By the way, you realize that getting admission with full financial aid from top schools are like <1%, right??

What do you consider a good GPA from your country? Agree with @paul2752, you need either SAT scores or ACT scores, letters of recommendation and 2 SAT subject tests for some of these schools.

Also, I personally think speaking 3 languages are pretty cool but not competitive enough for being spectacular enough to out-compete other foreign students.

Not only that, each school has its own policies of getting recommendation letters and taking certain subject tests…which means you didn’t even look at the college websites yet. For example, MIT REQUIRES one math and one science subject tests and one recom letter from each math AND science teacher. Besides, judging by your post you are not a good fit for MIT at all.

Then MIT is probably not the best fit for you.

Writing a book is one thing. Getting it published and selling hundreds of thousands of copies is another.

Nobody can chance you without standardized test scores. Even with strong scores, as an int’l student needing full aid, your chances are somewhere between 0 and 2%. Good luck.

Also, why are you going to colleges late? Was there any accudents/extenuating circumstances/etc??

I think internationals have to show that they can pay their student contribution (whatever the college decides that is) for all 4 years before they can enroll. If you’re not earning much, are you going to be able to do that before your VISA runs out and you have to return to your home country?
