Chances of getting into these LACs and others?

Hi, I’m a high school junior trying to do everything I can to get in the top college of my choice. I was wondering what my reach school - safety school lineup should be. I also accept other suggestions on what I could do better.

Have not taken actual ACT or SAT yet

Unweighted GPA: 4.7

African American Female

AP Classes: 2 (AP Euro, and APUSH) I plan to take AP Gov, and AP English and Comp next year. There are only five AP classes at my school that I can choose from. I take honors level courses during the rest of my schedule.

Foreign Language: Spanish I-IV(Honors), planning to take Italian I and II next year

Elective Courses:
Piano I and II
Economics
Modern World
Information Technology

Extra Curriculars:
Senior Choir/Show Choir (Junior/Senior years)
Musical (Sophmore/Junior(Understudy for supporting role)/Senior years)
Advanced Theater Production Show (Guest dancer)
National Honor Society Member
Spanish Club 2 year member (Executive Board)
Chemistry Club 1 year
Key Club 2 year member
Renniassance Academic Club all four years
Student Council 1 year
Varsity Hip Hop team member (Freshman year)
Freshman Cheerleading (Leadership award, Freshman year)
Church Youth Group Organization
Volunteering/Docent at a local cultural museum
Steady Summer Job

I plan to take Public Speaking and Psychology next year, and apply for a Young Writer’s Workshop in the Summer. I have a deep interest in Political and Social issues. Should I try AP Chemistry to build up my course strength, or stick to a schedule supporting my interests?

College Choices;
Kenyon College - Stretch
Wake Forest University - Reach
Boston College (legacy) - Reach
Spelman College (legacy) - Reach
University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill - Target/Reach
Indiana University - Target
The Ohio State University - Target
Miami University - Target
Cedarville University - Safety
Wright State University - Safety

First off, take AP Chem. For your more selective schools, they like well rounded individuals, not a person just focused on one area of study.

Second, you seem pretty solid even for your reach schools. Your ECs aren’t a little sporadic, but it seems academically you are doing great (By the way, how is it possible to have an unweighted GPA above 4.0?) And considering the fact that you are a legacy of two of them, I would say you are in very good shape.

Depending upon your SATs and ACT, I would recommend looking for another reach, if you want to. If not, I’m all for Kenyon.

I don’t know of its a weighted or unweighted GPA, but I know that there’s one average that includes special points for honors and AP courses that I’ve taken over the past years.

If it accounts for honors and APs, that usually means weighted. Good luck with your search!
