okay so i am a sophomore attending IB Program. Here are my stats SO FAR

USC and NYU are private schools; UCLA is a state school.
Typically, the in-state/out-of-state distinction has much more bearing on state schools than on private schools (especially with respect to financial aid, but sometimes also w.r.t. admission chances).
For these or any other schools that interest you, run their online net price calculators to estimate costs.
Some selective private schools (including USC) are quite generous with need-based aid for family incomes under $100K. Others (including NYU) tend to be less generous. I’d expect USC to offer maybe $35K-$40K in need-based aid, if your family assets are roughly in line with income. Your Mileage May Vary – so run the NPCs.
As an OOS applicant, expect little to no financial aid from UCLA. Run the net price calculator but expect to be close to full pay at $60K/year or higher.
UCLA will not be feasible if your family makes 87K a year (no financial aid, by law, to OOS applicants).
USC will expect very high test scores, so prep seriously.
NYU has horrible financial aid so it’s unlikely to be affordable.
Get a Princeton Review’s Best colleges and start reading. Find 15 colleges that you hadn’t heard of and that you wouldn’t mind attending. Find several instate colleges, too (if you live in AZ or WYor NV or LA look at States in the broad region).
There are lots of opportunities out there for kids with high grades and test scores, but it’s best not to focus on one or two dream schools. Since your test scores are unknown, the part of your resume that you can control for now is your GPA. Keep making As, and take a prep class before the PSAT, if you can afford it. If not, there are self-study options available, such as Khan Academy.
