Chances of getting into UCs?

Hi, I’m a senior and I was wondering what my chances would be in getting into UCLA and SD, and I want to know which private schools I should apply to.

My stats:
Overall 4.1 GPA weighted, 3.8 unweighted
SAT I: 1950
Subjects:
Math II: 710
Chemistry: 630
ACT: 28
AP Chemistry Score: 3 (even though I got an A in the class both semesters…)

I’ve only taken 1 AP class last year (Chemistry), but this year (senior year), I’m taking three.

I don’t have leadership whatsoever, but I’ve volunteered by building houses in Mexico, I’m a Keeper in Training at the Zoo, and I’ve been a camp counselor.

I want to major in Environmental Sciences, Biology, or Biochem (what schools are good for these majors?)

Thanks, I really appreciate it!

Someone please reply! Ty!!!

I think UCs review your application in context of your school, and how you have challenged yourself based on the opportunities at your school and home. So if your school is very competitive and has 20+ ap classes and you have taken only 1, that may hurt.

On the other hand, if you are in a disadvantaged school/neighborhood, you will have a great chance of getting in. I think you will need to focus on your EC and make the essay noteworthy. I think you do have a chance but your SAT may be on the low side, again we don’t know your school background.

Apply to other UCs as well. Good luck.

My D had better stats that yours and didn’t get into either. However she is ecstatically happy where she is, and you will be too.

You can probably get into both as you have good scores and have taken AP classes :)

Actually, your scores are low for those two schools. I recommend applying to some of the “lower” UC’s as well.

Are you ELC eligible? (top 9% of your class) I agree with my fellow posters above, you should pay the additional $60 per and apply to UCD, UCI, and UCSB. Heck, I’d even apply to UCSC as your safety. For kicks, visit the link below and click on “Custom Tables”, answer a few questions, and enter up to 3 “mean characteristics” at a time to see what the admit rates are at the various UCs for someone that is similar to your profile:

Thanks for the input! My school had only 6 AP classes for juniors to take and the counselors only let you take 4 max. What privates should I consider? And what would my chances be of getting into irvine or Davis?

I think you may have a shot at UCI or UCD. For Private, try Chapman University.
