Chances of getting into UF

Happy new year!!!
UF has been my dream school for a while and recently I’ve been overthinking it and I’m scared I wont get in. I got a 1280 superscored on my SAT and I can’t retake it because it’s too late at this point. I submitted 3 essays through common app hoping to boost my chances (my primary essay is really good, the others are good too).
For my activities I put:
1: Head drum major in my band (11,12th grade; 100+ members)
2: Was a part of a student leadership group in my county (30 ppl, very prestigious)
3: Section leader of 5 people in my band while a drum major (5 ppl in my section)
4: Co-president in Tri-M Music Honor Society
5: Founded a small pop-up, winning 2nd overall in H.S. division
6: Was a part of a leadership counsil with 4 people to address and solve problems in my county.
7: Lead Trumpet in our top jazz band
8: Part-time plumbing job with my dad’s company
9: Founder of a different pop-up (nothing won)
10: Playing tennis as a personal hobby

I feel like these really show leadership but I feel like my SAT score is the only thing holding me back.

We each just need to do our best, and have faith that this will work out one way or another. You also should make sure that you have applied to safeties.

I have said this before, but in applying to graduate schools I was turned down by my “dream school”, attended my second choice, and LOVED IT. I eventually figure out that my second choice had always been a better fit for me (admissions seemed to have figured this out before I did). You just never know how these things are going to turn out.

Your ECs look very good to me. Your high school grades and letters of reference are going to be very important for admissions.

Assuming that you have applied to safeties and kept your budget in mind, I expect that this will work out well for you one way or another. Best wishes and good luck.

Did I miss it - what is your UF GPA?

They add .5 for each Honors class and 1 for AP.

The 25/75 range is 1360 / 1500.

Btw there is no such thing as a dream school. All have bad profs or bad roomies or bad food.

There are many like schools to UF with varying levels of selectivity so if not UF, you’ll find another home at a place where you will likely do just as well.

Good luck.

Agree with the above posters. Please forget the idea of a "dream school’ and focus on finding affordable match and safety schools. There are tons of colleges where you can have a great four year experience and get where you want to go in life.

I have already been accepted to FSU (through next program) along with FGCU and Stetson. I have a 4.4 weighted and a 3.6 unweighted (not recalculated)

AP, AICE, and DE

So UF 4.4 - to have a 4.4 from 3.6, that means you have all Honors or AP and more AP than Honors. That doesn’t seem realistic.

That said their 25/75 is a 4.5 to 4.7 - so given your GPA and SAT are lower than the 25th percentile, I’d say your odds are slim.

But of course, I am not an AO - but your stats are not there.

FSU is fantastic (nicer campus IMHO). Congrats on NEXT. What you have to decide here is are you ok starting a semester late with no assuranc of admission. I don’t see it online - does the NEXT program allow you to live on campus in a dorm or off campus? I assume off campus since you aren’t admitted til January.

So you have to make that decision.

FGCU - I mean, there’s worse places to live than Fort Myers and the school is smaller and is that a positive for you (it’s mid size).

And Stetson is that smaller, LAC type school - very small. Is it affordable?

So you have huge, huge, midsize, and small - does one stand out?

I wish you luck with UF - but the FSU Next is likely foreshadowing what will happen with UF since you didn’t get into easier to get into FSU.

So if it came to FSU Next, FGCU, and Stetson, what would you decide?

Have you visited all three?

Do you have Bright Futures?

Is Steston, if you went that way, affordable? I assume you got merit. It’s an entirely different experience/environment.

Good luck.

I doubt very much you’ll get accepted to UF because of your SAT score.
But the FSU NEXT program sounds great. You’ll take classes at TSC for one semester and then be at FSU in Jan. as long as you have a 3.0 in your classes. In the mean time you’ll be able to participate in sports (and try out for band) at FSU during fall. Have you visited the campus? It’s very pretty and students seem to love it there.

BIG NEWS!!! I GOT ACCEPTED INTO UF!!! Granted through the pace program.

Congrats. But after you get past - do you really want to be an online student ?

FSU NEXT is in class and just one semester off campus. I believe you can live on campus.

What other options do you have ?

PACE is fine but if you want a four year college experience, hopefully you have other options and FSU is a much better one, in my opinion.

I’m glad for you - I am - but I think you deserve better.

Having a degree from UF vs say Bama or UCF won’t matter in life.

Congrats and good luck.

Now you have a decision to make.

I’ve already commited to UF. A big part of it is that I have about 40 credits completed through D.E. and AICE and I am going to be a music major so I’ll have to be in Gainesville for the music part of my degree.
