chances of getting out of state tuition waived or getting out of state scholarship

Im from Texas and im very interested in UCSD. However, just the extra money added on for out of state tuition is more than i would pay total at UT for example. How often do out of staters get scholarships or is there any way to get the extra amount waived? There is no way i’ll be able to afford UCSD if i dont get some kind of scholarship or reduction in tuition.

oh and i have good grades, test scores, etc, im just wondering if they even give these types of scholarships or waive the out of state tuition for anyone.

You might be awarded the Regents Scholarship, but I don’t know what you mean numerically by good grades and good test scores so I can’t really assess your chances of recieving it. If you have no financial need, the scholarship is $2000 per year. However, if you have demonstrated financial need, the scholarship extends to meet that financial need. There are other perks too, but I won’t get into that.

ok thanks. $2000 is not nearly enough. guess im staying in texas.

Well, if you have financial need, they’ll cover it. But if by that you’re saying you don’t have financial need but just don’t want to spend the money, then yeah.

Is Texas part of the Western exchange program? If so, you may only have to pay half of the extra tuition. But I doubt it is. Also, if you establish residency in California, the later years at UCSD will cost the in-state rate. UT sounds like a much better choice given your situation though. Out of state public schools are usually bad deals in my opinion.
