Chances of honors?

Hi there,

I’m a student in MD (in-state) who applied to UMD in the EA round for C/O 2024, and want some information on the likeliness that I get invited to the honors program. I’m pretty sure I’ll get in to the university, but I’m nervous about honors.

Stats: 3.77UW/4.31W GPA (every non-A is in 9th because I was sick with a serious autoimmune disorder when hospitals closed, it’s in my additional information)
1580 SAT - 800M/780RW
Rank 50/400
14 AP classes

Extracurricular activities: starting a tutoring organization to provide free tutoring help around my town (300+ students), serving on the county youth advisory council as the vice chairman (exact role would dox me), interning for a state senator, president and founder of DECA at my school, co-president of math honor society, being a youth leader at my temple youth group, interning for an educational nonprofit and directing funds for 400+ orphans, and some smaller stuff for my last few

I’m also a NMSF if that swings anything (only one in my county this year)

my essays are pretty good but nothing mind-blowing and my letters of rec should be about the same

You have a good chance of being invited to honors or scholars. But decisions are made holistically so it’s not just stats that matter.
So it’s hard to predict, but I think you’ll more likely make it than not, into one of these programs. Probably Scholars.

Not sure there’s a way to know. Gpa and rank aren’t great relative to a competitive program. .

They have several levels - not just Honors - neither of my kids got. Both got Scholars. Their test was lower 32 and 34 ACT but other stats better.

First, hope you get in - it’s not a given depending on major - then worry about which program - they have at least three.

What’s your major ?

Nmsf and NMF will show you love if you decide against UMD. Love like full ride and close to it.

Be patient and good luck.

Only UMD can tell you and they will soon enough.

Congrats on nmsf and all your accomplishments.
