Chances of me getting readmitted into Brown and transferring?

Long story short, I’m about to go into my 2nd year at UCLA and all I can think about is reapplying and transferring to another college next year. (I’m really just thinking about Berkeley or Brown) I was accepted to both last year, but chose UCLA, and after a year of being here, I really don’t think UCLA is the place for me. My mind constantly drifts to what could have been if I went to Brown instead, however I know transferring there will be very difficult now.

My question is, I know it’s harder for me as a UC student to transfer out to another college (compared to a CC student), but if I do reapply, do I have a solid chance of getting in? Do colleges have data or access to your old application and admissions status and possibly take that into account or is all the information gone?

Also some info about me:
My GPA is pretty low- 3.459 (Can hopefully raise to 3.5-3.6 by the time I apply)
I don’t have much extracurriculars.
I’m going to be applying as Business or Economics.

I guess I just want to know how possible it is for me to get back into Brown. Plus, if you can provide some info about Berkeley that will be cool too!! But I am mostly wondering about Brown.

Priority wise for transferring to UCB, it is CC to UC transfer first followed by UC to UC transfer. Make sure if you do the UC transfer that you get a UC reciprocity letter for your completed GE’s from UCLA.

I cannot comment on transferring to Brown.

Unlikely. Brown accepts around 5% of transfers. You also need to articulate in your essay what you aren’t getting at UCLA than you will get at Brown.

It should be easy to transfer to a less competitive, less elite school… but very unlikely to transfer from one top 25 school to another top 25 school without some significant hook.

Brown is a special case as you were accepted there. Contact the admissions office, and ask what you need to do.

I do think that you may be an exception as @happymomof1 stated, since you’ve been accepted to Brown before.

However, you’re not exempt from having to provide a compelling reason to transfer, and from what I see, you don’t have a legitimate reason for why you want to go to Brown as opposed to UCLA.
