I just found I was admitted to UCD on a conditional admission as a statistics major. Ironically, I just graduated in 2008 from high school and I was accepted in the fall with a 2.80 GPA for UCD only (sadly got rejected from UCR too.)

My friend keeps telling me I am not ready for the UCs yet because I have the attitude of constantly drinking, partying, and also pimping up my awesome BMW; however, I disagree with my friend despite that I do these things and stuff that amazingly I’ve seen people who party still make it at the UC.

Because this is my first year in college, I didn’t know a lot of things that I so happen to get into UCD with an C in Calc I, D in Calc II (barely passing with 69% during the winter,) and a C in statistics from 0 units to 60 units thanks a school counselor who helped me get this far (all my humanities, social sci classes and english classes were on the internet that may it easy for me to get this far but my math and sci classes were in person.) My friend complained with the grades that I got with my current habits that I might not probably even make it through perhaps the first quarter at UCD… but what do you guys think? Is UCD really that hard that I might flunk out if I continue my habits now? Will I die in my upper div or is that all just bull that my friend is talking? Or my friend is just limiting my success for my future?

I don’t know. I guess my dad inspired me to become a statistics major when I was little that influenced me to go into teaching in the future to help other people.

you’ll totally survive. just get your act together a bit and focus more on school…it won’t be too hard. everyone tries to make college seem like the hardest thing ever, but have you seen some of the 'tards who’ve graduated? you’ll be fine.

Just make good use of the resources you’ll have at UCD. Discussions, office hours, tutoring, other math major friends etc and you’ll get through it.

well looking at your grades in calculus 1 and 2, i’m guessing your background in calculus is not very strong. Multivariable calculus would be extremely difficult without a strong background in single variable calculus.

" I disagree with my friend despite that I do these things and stuff that amazingly I’ve seen people who party still make it at the UC."

Yes people do this but if you can’t party hard while keeping decent grades at a community college what do you think will happen when you get to a UC?

Don’t let the past define who you are now, and most importantly who you will be. You can make the conscious choice today to focus more on school from now on instead of getting too distracted by alcohol/girls/cars/typical guy things etc…

We can’t predict what you are going to do with your life at UCD, but you have the power to change it for the better.

BTW, what kind of BMW do you have? Any Dinan mods?

It’s certainly not “a lot” easier and I actually believe it’s harder. I would think that especially for someone that did poorly in calc 1 and 2 too.

I am saying, I know exactly what it is like to be in your shoes. A few years of *ing around with expensive cars, and several thousand dollars worth of traffic violations later…I’d have to say, it’s not worth it. Get your * together BEFORE you go to school. Take summer classes, cut back on going out as often. That way you are better prepared when the session starts.

I think it is much better for you to go to davis than go to community college, but a slacker can be lazy anywhere so you have to decide what is important to you.
