Chances of this Academic Trainwreck

Hi, my name is Tim and I’m looking for some input on my chances at some of the schools I’m applying to. Basically, I just screwed around freshman and sophomore year, but I got my act together junior year and I am presently doing well in senior year. My test scores are decent but my GPA is not too great. I go to an “elite” (if you want to call it that) private school in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

About me:

•White
•Upper Middle Class
(Not what colleges want to see, I know)

Grades:

•Freshman: 83 Avg
•Sophomore: 81 Avg
•Junior: 88 Avg
•Senior (1st Quarter, so far) 92 Avg

Despite these low grades, I have good teacher and counselor recommendations.

•SAT II: 760 US History, 660 World History, 620 Physics

Hey thanks for “chancing” me! I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with the majority of these colleges but I could say that judging by your EC’s and improvement throughout high school, I think you have a great shot at The US Air Force Academy (your grades are on par with most of their applicants and you even applied in their ROTC Program) and SUNNY-Binghampton (it’s a state school and you’re well qualified)!

I hope I helped you even a little…

Good Luck and I hope you end up where you wanna be!

With outstanding SAT II scores and a 1930 SAT and more-than-decent grades, how can you even call yourself an academic trainwreck? Don’t demean yourself just because people who never leave their homes post on this site with 2400 SAT scores and 4.5 GPAs.

Compared to the rest of the kids in my class, my grades aren’t that good. My school doesn’t rank, but I would say I am in the bottom half of the class.

i think your good at most of these schools, im not familiar with the air force and coast guard though. i kno ppl who got into even more competetive shools with scores and gpa like yours
chance back

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/595982-chance-me-how-much-do-sat-s-really-matter-when-everything-else-good.html

bump…bump

I don’t know most of these schools, especially not the Army schools

But Binghamton is in, my brother got in with a 3.2 and no SAT IIs
I would say U Vermont match if not in

Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

solid chance at all schools mentioned and you will definitely get into at least three, though im not sure how the army thing works. though your gpa is somewhat low, if you have taken difficult courses this wont matter.

I believe you’re in everywhere definitely except for Lafayette and Suny-Bing. I know I was waitlisted with slightly less last year and this year is supposed to be even more competitive. I attend SUNY-Bing currently and while any other year I would say you’re definitely in, the buzz going around campus is that it will be alot tougher than last year.
good luck though with everything!

Thanks to all for your input guys. I just got my ACT scores and I got a composite of 30 with a reading grade of 36 (w00t.)

Okay…this isn’t done much on the chances board but I wish it was. Here’s a status update so that all of you can see what someone with my states got into.

•Saint Louis University- IN ($13,000 Scholarship)
•US Air Force Academy- Pending (fingers crossed)
•US Coast Guard Academy- Pending (fingers crossed)
•Case Western Reserve- Pending
•Lafayette- Pending
•SUNY Binghamton- Deferred
•Elmira College- IN ($15,000 Scholarship)
•Muhlenberg- Pending
•U of Vermont- IN ($1,000 Scholarship)
•Loyola Chicago- Kinda In (I got into the STEP program which requires me to take summer cources there before my freshman year, and if I get a min 2.0 GPA for those, I’m in.)
•Fordham University- Pending

•In addition, I applied for the Air Force ROTC program- Deferred (fingers crossed again)

I’ll put up another one when everything is over.

Note: Just for the record, I’m not trying to gloat or anything. I just want to help others by giving them an accurate picture of what they can expect.

Congrats so far man. I wish more people would do this. Also your grades weren’t bad. Like said before, too many people in here think a 4.0 is a standard that has to be followed. Good look on the academy’s.

yea man. you actually make a legit point. so far my political affiliation hasn’t seem to hurt me, but all the schools i’m applying to are fairly conservative. figured i wouldn’t stand a chance at schools up north. so i’m happy stayin down here.
congrats on your acceptances so far. they’re very impressive. i’m surprised some of these schools actually have ROTC programs, cause i thought a lot of universities didn’t even allow a military presence on campus for ideological reasons. so much for tolerance.
as for your chances…

•US Air Force Academy- i would say no, just because they only accepted 17% of applicants last year, but i’d say you have as much of a shot as anyone
•US Coast Guard Academy- good shot
•Case Western Reserve-good shot
•Lafayette- in
•Muhlenberg- never heard of it
Fordham University- definitely in. i’ve seen people with a lot lower stats than yours and they got in with no problem.

btw, when you chanced mine, “low match” means a very good chance, right?
