What are my chances of top ten college admission with…
-All A’s in high school
-5’s on AP Euro, AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP USH, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Lang
-Taking AP Bio, AP Physics C, AP Lit, AP Phycology, AP Stats in my senior year (and maybe AP Spanish)
- 36 ACT Sophomore year (36 E, 35 M, 36 R, 35 S) and 10 on Writing
- 1500 PSAT (NMSF) and likely NMF
- 1580 SAT
Based off this what are my chances at a top 10 school?
Also, my biggest struggle in terms of college admissions is finding something I am passionate about which I can pursue and take far… I am very smart as shown by more academic accomplishments but I don’t have any extracurricular that I am very passionate about. Does anyone on here have any advice about how to discover something you can take far? My dad wants me to pursue computer programming or web coding, how I turn this into an extracurricular and take it far?
without good ecs, “the top 10” schools are all reaches. plenty of applicants with perfect gpa and test scores get rejected from schools like harvard and mit. also, why does it have to be “the top ten colleges”??? are other schools not good enough for u? if all ur applying to are reach colleges (schools with 20% acceptance rate or less), u need safety/target schools or else you’ll end up in community college
regarding ur ecs, you can start developing websites for local organization/business (ive started doing this recently, made a few bucks along with it), and join clubs like computer club and robotics. on an unrelated note, check out stack overflow, it has lots of cool stuff that can be helpful
(excuse my bad typing. keyboard really irresponsive and shift key wont work, so it’ll take forever to type a proper response, new 1 ordered tho)
You have a competitive academic profile for a “top 10” type school. However, academics aren’t everything- can you list your extracurriculars?
About finding things that you’re passionate about- A passion for a subject tends to come about organically. I know that it can be frustrating that you can’t just pick a subject out of a hat and be passionate about it. Here’s my advice on how to find what you’re interested in: Expose yourself to new things.
Take a breath and a step back from academics over the summer, and see what you naturally gravitate to. Go to the zoo, visit a park, take a day trip to a museum or an art gallery or two. See what you like, and why you like it. For example, maybe you find yourself drawn to cars. Cool! Ask yourself what about cars interests you. Do you like their design? The thought of how their engines work? The adventures that the car’s been on? The places it’s going?
That’s my advice. And be careful of career paths that relatives offer. They mean well, but don’t let yourself be pressured into a major or a career based off of something someone told you to do. College and the rest of your life is a journey based off of what you want to do!
EC’s are pretty much the most important item on the college app. Could you list those?
Programming is my passion. Through my experiences, I can tell you that making programming an EC is incredibly easy to start, since you can create apps, games, and websites on your own. There are countless articles on getting started.
