Chances of Transferring

I’m going to be a sophomore at USC looking to transfer to Yale and am wondering what my chances are or if you have any advice to improve my chances. Here are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.96
USC GPA: 3.96

SAT Writing: 740
SAT Math: 670
SAT Reading: 790

SAT II Math I: 620
SAT II Literature: 710
SAT II US History: 720

National Hispanic Scholar PSAT/NMSQT

Freshman courses included a 300 level history course and a 400 level senior seminar in history as well as a 300 level orchestral conducting class. (I’m a cello major at USC, hence the conducting.)

You are very much in the range of accepted transfer applicants, but no one can tell if you’ll actually get in. Think long and hard about why you want to transfer and convey those reasons in your essays.

Any specific advice?

Out of curiousity, do TA"s count as “professors/instructors” for the Yale Transfer?

truaz–Check with the admissions office on your question. I think the recs would be more powerful coming from professors even if TA recs are allowed.

wayward–My advice, as above, is to take the essays very seriously and to articulate the right reasons for wanting to transfer, which do not include Yale’s prestige.

Definitely. I mainly want to transfer because Yale has such wonderful classes for music majors.
