I believe that the BC Calc part is not in the HL curriculum as it’s been covered in that course (so not duplicative.) Fwiw, there is also math curriculum beyond this level. Each school does this in a way that makes sense for them and their students. The curriculum is also set up in a very modular way.
Just saying that this statement is not always true.
Could it be that IB math has a “high rigor” reputation because IB courses in general are a lot of work, even though (in comparison to AP calculus) IB math is not more advanced in the calculus direction that seems to be what is relevant for advanced placement in US universities?
I thought the IB curriculum was standard? If the HS is straying from the IB course content, whether in math or some other subject, I hope that parents and students know that. I’ve not seen an IB HS divulge that they don’t follow the standard IB curriculum on their school profile. Regardless, seems like something for OP to look into at their HS, starting with their counselor.
It is - or what’s tested is known, but it’snot like the French system. In any case, that’s how this school picks up the BC Calc part of the HL curriculum. They have a very high pass rates and no gating, so clearly, they’ve figured it out!
Typically the IB HL courses are two years. At my kids’ school you could take AP Calc BC instead of the first year of IB HL. It allowed kids to take AP Calc BC which is pretty highly desired for STEM focused kids without precluding them from the full IB diploma.
