Chances / Other schools to apply to

I am applying to penn state university park with a 1910 SAT (650 V, 660 M, 600 W) and a 27 ACT (got 99 percentile in math and 90 percentile in reading, just screwed up the science section terribly) - What are my chances at gettin in to Penn State, I am from massachusetts and would be applyinh in november, also is it worth the time to do the essay? I could send my app right now without the essay, my scores and counselor info is already on file, also should i send teacher recs, or do they not even use those?

Furthermore, could anyone please help me with finding other schools, similar to penn state, i could apply to and have a reasonable chance at.

Schools I’ve applied/ am applying to

University of Michigan - applied in october, reach
University of Maryland - applied in october
Indiana University - applied november
University of Wisconsin - applied november
Texas @ Austin - applyin soon

As you can see i like large state schools with a lively campus life…also like setting of maryland and penn state (college towns)

Thanks

The essay isn’t long at all and only asks to write about an extracurricular activity…which if you did the common app is one of the questions - just express how you would incorporate it into penn state community.

while writing the essay may help, applying as early as possible is also very helpful. as time goes on, it gets harder to get accepted as spots fill up.

i looked into the exact list of schools that you did. since i am a Maryland resident, it would be somewhat easier for me to get in even though MD is bragging about their highly competitive accpetance rate. currently, indiana university is my first choice and I just applied to penn state as another safety. it’s funny becuase at the last min, i made my safety school as my first choice after visiting NYU’s horrible non existing campus. personally, i wouldnt wanna go to wisconsin and texas only accepts 3% out of state people so its pretty tough. i woudlnt want to go to university of michigan since its filled with a bunch of stuck up rejects from ivies who are ungrateful for their shots at an unbelievable college. plus the tuitions for penn state and indiana are pretty similar (around 20,000 w/o room and board) … just wait for those letters and maybe we can be roommates or something.

What is your GPA? That matters bigtime for Maryland/Wisc/UT/UMich. As for Indiana, you’ll easily get in.

ya i decided not to apply to texas. Im sticking with the big 10 for the most part, im sending in my illinois application soon. I also think I might apply Boston University as a safty considering they have a strong relationship without school and people have gotten in with 2.7 GPA and 1100 SAT scores. Indiana and Penn State are top on my list besides maryland and michigan. I should hear from Indiana soon, well see how that goes. Luckily for me money isnt the issue though, so I havent even looked at the prices but Indiana is probably one of the nicest campuses out of my list, so im strongly considering it.

My GPA is around 3.1, but our school has an average GPA of 2.7-2.9 and I have taken all advances leveled classes if weighted it would be around 3.6ish. My school does a good job at explaining to colleges our unique grading system and GPA hasnt really been a problem for most kids in the past. Ive seen plenty of 3.1 and lower get into Maryland and Wisc, as for Michigan my GPA is on the lower side for our school as most people have 3.3 for michigan however I great recomendations and I had decent essays on moving my freshman year, etc. As for Penn State I am somewhat worried as people have been rejected with 3.8 and 1450 SAT and people have been accepted with 2.8 1100 SAT, so I feel like it is all luck as far as our school goes, being out of state, and not having many applicants to Penn State.
