Awards:
T_T None yet, but I plan on making USAMO this year

Recs:
I'll be able to get an exceptional one, as my English teacher has known me for two years and hinted that she would be happy to give me a rec. The other one will be decent, but not as good

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, Stanford, Cornell, UChicago, Rice, MIT

How are my chances? :|

If you're full pay and achieve these stats, no UC should be a problem. But the privates here will be tough unless you find a genuine way to stand out.

Is there anything you'd recommend me to try? I know it's late, but I'd really like to get into Stanford :P

I agree with ELM277, but keep in mind that UChicago has a higher acceptance rate than those UC schools ...

Alright, thanks :) What about Urbana-Champaign? How do you guys think my chances are there?

AMAZING CHANCES EVERYWHERE! In at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and Rice! Good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1232794-final-chance-thread-will-chance-back.html

Sorry but I'm really not familiar with the UCs. I think you have a really good chance at Cornell. Lower chance at Stanford and MIT just b/c they're so competitive but your 800 on the math and experience with math team will help at MIT. Good luck!

Chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1214491-please-chance-me-all-jazz.html

"keep in mind that UChicago has a higher acceptance rate than those UC schools"

Good job!

Stanford, MIT, Chicago: Reach
Cornell, Rice: Solid Chances

UCB, UCLA: Great chances
UCSD: Most likely In

"I plan on making USAMO this year"
Now, that is a big plan. I hope you make it.
It will significantly boost your chances.

Good luck to you!

You are IN at UIUC!!!!

Thanks for the responses all :P I think my USAMO chances are 50-50. I made AIME in freshman year and was the school winner, so they kicked me up to AMC 12 in sophomore year... I messed up, pretty badly. Anybody else with math competition experience/advice?

Did you try "Art of Problem Solving"?

Also, I believe you can find previous exams (Google it).

(I did not make USAMO either. Damn!)

Yep, I'm working on those :) Thanks!

Your EC's are somewhat lacking/not impressive, so the higher end schools like Stanford, Cornell, UChicago, and MIT may not like that. But test scores and GPA are awesome. You're in for the UC's and have a decent chance for Rice, but to compensate for those EC's (grades and test scores won't do this AT ALL), you need spectacular essays.

Thanks for the advice :) Would tutoring count as an EC?
