Chances/Reccomedations

I’m a junior now and currently taking AP Calculus AB, Physics B, USH, and English Language.
Averaging about an A-, but haven’t taken any other AP’s in previous years.
SAT scores are right now without any studying are mediocre, CR-560, M-670, W-570 , but I’m planning to retake in June, guaranteeing myself a 200 point increase, specifically in CR and M.
I’m looking to take AP Chem, Physics C, Literature, and probably Stats, if I don’t get accepted in a college internship program for a math class.
I have 500 community service hours all at one place, and if it matters, I am lower-middle class Vietnamese. Parents from Vietnam, but I was born in the US 2 years after emigrating. I’m also interested in Georgetown and maybe UVA

Well you can’t necessarily guarantee yourself a 200 point increase on the SATS. Most people only score about an average of 30-40 points higher overall. If you really try hard maybe 90-100 points or so, but you cant really expect an increase like that. IT may happen to some people, but it’s pretty rare.

thexfataility:
no… you can do MUCH better than a 30-40 point increase… I went from a 1770-2270, but that was in a course of a year. I improved 150 points in 3 weeks though.

If you have good extra curriculars and you seem like a “fit”, I think you have a good shot. Just bring up those SAT scores.

Alright, I mean I didn’t say it was possible. Generally though, people don’t make jumps like that. You could do it though I suppose, if you have the drive.

A- means 93 ish?
I am also assuming that’s UW.

Oh yeah, you should definitely improve your SAT scores - get on that CR immediately! I went from a 570 to around a 700 by the next try! Focus really hard on it! As for the writing, well having parents from another part of the world is not going to help. Buy yourself the “Barron’s Writing Workbook for the NEW SAT”
[Amazon.com: Writing Workbook for the New SAT (SAT Writing Workbook) (9780764132216): George Ehrenhaft: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Workbook-New-SAT-Barrons/dp/0764132210)

Helped my score improve drastically.
The one for critical reading would be good, too, but definitely get the one for writing.
If all goes well, you’ll get a 200 point increase in BOTH of those sections. :D

Also, what college are you going to go into?
That will determine your chances as well.

Current chance: Reach.

It’s a good thing Cornell and Georgetown “doesn’t look” at the writing section. I’m not so interested in the College of Engineering, but I guess that’s the field I’m destined to study. As for my college essay, I think it will be phenomenal, so many stories and realizations about life as a whole to document.
Thanks for the replies, keep em’ coming
