Work:
At Best buy for 2 yrs

I have applied to:
MIT, Calitech, University of Chicago, Harvard, Northwestern, and other back up colleges

What grade are you in? I suggest if XC & Track are things that you are very passionate about get on the Varsity and work at becoming captain and winning state/national titles. Grades and test scores are right on so keep it up. I think you might be having the same problem that I am grades are doing great but you feel like you’re missing EC’s that stand out. Chance me? I also want to apply to Harvard.

Glaring lack of EC’s… I’d use these last few days of 2011 to apply to UC’s (UCLA, UCB), UVa, UNC, etc.–bigger state flagships that like a nice 34/valedictorian and would ignore your shortcomings. You’re obviously a smart kid, but you didn’t plan this right.

Your grades and scores are right in the ballpark but I don’t see any unique or amazing EC’s. But not everyone has cured cancer before graduating from HS!

Obviously, the strength of your application is in your GPA and rank and your ECs and test scores lack a little distinction for the Ivy/Ivy-equivalents. IF you went the “athletic recruit route”, assuming top times for their recruiting classes at these most selective Ivy/Ivy-equivalent schools on your list (MIT, Harvard, Cal Tech, etc.), your chances of acceptance would have been really solid. I think your best chances will be at NU and Chicago and hopefully you applied at some other schools that you would be happy attending that weren’t listed.

You have above-average chances at Northwestern; the rest are very high reaches. Although your academics are very good, you don’t have any extracurriculars that stand out and no clear focus. Did you take any SAT subject tests?

Thanks, for your help
I’m still Jr. & and I haven’t applied anywhere, but I’m just checking out the response
I have some additional math awards won at various meets(I hope to win something bigger at the end of the year meet).
I also do hold some leadership positions within some of the clubs.
I am varsity for both xc & track, but I don’t think I am really looking for an athletic scholarship.
My rank is extremely unlikely to fall.
