Did research at university
Volunteer work
Writing more of my novel
Stanford Summer School (biology class)

I only skimmed but I didn’t see race or geographical location - these are important factors so before people crtique you, you should put that info up

Wow. I’m not an expert but if you don’t get in, I don’t know who will, regardless of your race and location. How does your school calculate GPAs?

Oh, sorry. I am Asian-American (which sucks, I understand) and my school’s GPA is out of 8 instead of four, because A+ = 8, A=7, and so on. Located in some competitve East coast school that sends about 45 people to ivies each year.

are u getting the novel published? coz otherwise, i don’t think it holds much water.
otherwise, very strong numbers and ec passions (bio and art), a decent chance i must say.

Um, well, I put my novel manuscript thing on my app because I know somebody else who did write a novel manuscript and got it… after all, I still could very well publish it later… in a year or two, I guess. plus it was an EC, something I was interested in and did in my spare time…

You look pretty good to me! It’s kind of all random at a school like yale, but you’ve definitely done what you can to put yourself in a good place. good luck!

The first time i read your post i just skimmed. i thought it was really good. I just read it carefully a second time and whoa.

You did research, wrote a novel, was all-state musician for two instruments, photography, art, varsity swimming, science olympiad, volunteering, stanford summer program, plus top-notch academics…

You cant get all-state where i’m from without practicing 3 hrs a day.
And you cant get varsity swimming at my school without doing club (3-5 hr/day). And this is year round

Plus ur courses would equal another 3-5 hrs of hw a night. Plus any other of ur ec’s would probably be 2 hrs/night

plus sleep i guess…

and of course you end ur post by saying

“I have good recs and I’m a decent writer.”
I would think that if u wrote a freaking novel at the age of 16/17/18 you would be a pretty kick ass writer.

(Sorry if this post is wierd I have a hard time believing you did what you did)

SCEA at Stanford… I’m just applying to the others in case I don’t get in… admissions are random, no?

Well, research at my school is pretty much mandatory. As for all-state, I do practice quite a bit… but no, varsity swimming is NOT year-round or else I’d really die. There are the clubs that are stupid, such as National art honors society and the photo club-- those don’t take a long time, but I’m putting it on because it shows my dedication to art… I might send some stuff in.
My novel isn’t published yet, by the way. I don’t know if it really is that good-- it was just dedication, I think.

Everything I did was true-- but my school is really hypercompetitive.
