Chances, suggestions, I will play you a song!

I am working on applications, but I am kind of overwhelmed. I am not sure if I am applying at the right schools, in the sense of, is there another one out there where I may be a better fit? My life has turned around this past year. I have learned to listen to my heart as opposed to what I think will be “profitable”, (term used loosely). I started guitar at the beginning of the school year, I am really good. I would like to study music (performing), possibly minor in something else. My grades my first two years of HS, were pretty dismal. I am on an upward swing though! (3.7 last year, same this year?)

I don’t know much about the music schools as far as selectivity. Your underrepresented minority status could help a lot. All of your reaches are attainable so you’re in a pretty good situation. You started playing guitar this year and you’re thinking about majoring? I don’t mean to judge but aren’t you making a bold decision by possibly dedicating your life to something you discovered like 8 weeks ago?

Truthfully, I am not going to dedicate my life to music. I really enjoy it, and I figure a BA in Music with a minor in something else will be as useful to me as any other BA degree.

A music degree will do nothing for you if you’re applying to grad schools or trying to find a job in a more conventional field.

Roca, how would you know this? A BA in Music will be as useful to me as a BA in History when taking the GRE. They are both well rounded with a good representation of most liberal arts subjects. Since I will have at least a semester of college work completed before I even start, I figure I can minor in an unrelated LA subject without stressing too much.

You won’t even be waitlisted at William and Mary or UVA. Flat out rejected. Good luck.
