Chances? Ideas?
I think your chances are strong. You have a great GPA which is very important to UC schools. Your standardized testing performances were great as well. In my opinion, I don’t think the ACT is worth retaking. You can raise your score by two points max, which is inconsequential in the grand scheme and your chances of doing so are unlikely. I do think your choice in retaking the SAT was right, though. UCSB and UCSD are selective, and are notorious for rejecting overqualified candidates. Nevertheless, I think you’ll be accepted to a vast majority of these schools. You might want to consider UCIrvine if state schools are your decided route.
When completing your CSU application check out the slo website for a how to guide. For example, SLO wants students to report certain language and math classes taken in 7/8th grade. It was unclear last year how not including the information impacted apps. It also clarifies the slo specific questions at the end of the app. For example, “work experience” can be unpaid.
We paid very close attention to the information provided by slo that isn’t necessarily easy to decern when completing the application.
There is even information on how to meet the “elective” requirement. Some would say put an extra science in the spot, as slo likes extra stem classes it’s better to use the slo workaround. I can’t recall exactly but it’s outlined in the guide.
Of course this was last year, may be different this year.
With your ACT and UW GPA you have a good chance at all the UCs.
You are a competitive applicant and you have a great chance at all the schools on your list. I would say you are a lock for SDSU and the Weber’s Honor college.
Best of luck.
I agree - you are a competitive applicant for all of the schools you list.
good luck.
34 ACT is supposed to be like 1500 SAT, so you need to improve at least 120 points on the SAT for the retake to help.
Thanks for the input- SAT rose to 1410 so ACT makes more sense to use.
Any thoughts on SLO acceptance by major? Now considering Liberal Arts…
SLO Liberal Studies projected acceptance rate around 50%. You have an excellent chance as an applicant. Liberal Studies is in the College of Science and Mathematics.
If you are interested in the College of Liberal Arts, which major?
Originally considering sociology or poli sci but now considering Liberal Studies with Math or Science concentration.
With Using ACT in MCA is composite score used or only Math and English?
SLO superscores between tests also so they will take your highest Math and English/EBRW score for the MCA calculation.
