chances/suggestions

I am a white male (junior) at a top public high school in Ohio. Although my freshman year was weak, I’ve made definite strides since then. I have a 3.91 weighted GPA (bad freshman year) after my 1st semester in my junior year. I recently took the ACT and got a 30, hopefully with room to increase. I have a great interest in mathematics and social sciences and plan on majoring in economics. I am currently enrolled in AP BC Calc, AP US Gov, and plan on taking 4 more APs to finish out next year. I have solid ECs including many musical achievements, clubs, national honors society, who’s who, tutoring, and volunteer hours. I’m also looking into playing baseball at the collegiate level. My brother currently attends Northwestern and am wondering if that plays a role into the admissions process? Will Northwestern be scared away from a couple of C’s on my transcript? (spanish is not a strong suite of mine)

Would taking the SAT or SATII subject tests be beneficial? Any suggestions or recommendations to enhance my chances would be greatly appreciated!

Taking subject tests is “recomended”, but make sure you do well. Your ACT is in their median, but because of your grades you might consider studying up for a retake. Also, take the subject tests; they are cheap and can really help an application if you score well. Taking the SAT may also be a good idea, if you match your ACT it shows that your score wasn’t just a fluke and you may even do better. The C’s will certainly not help you, but your course load will. Study hard for those AP tests and try to get all 5s, that will only help you. Your ECs look pretty good, however “Who’s who” is not worth writing, as I am sure many CC vets will advise you. Good luck, you look like you’re on the right track.
