I am not going to take stereotypical majors Asians take such as math and science. I want to be different.

bump, please. I really need someone to answer.

I want to major in something like design or history.

Honestly, I think you should aim higher. RIT and UVA is too easy for you.

What I mean by this is: HYPSM.

I honestly think that since I am Asian and am poor, I will not have a chance at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or those kind of schools.

I agree with NuclearPakistan. 1.

bump. anyone else???

genevieve, you shouldn’t think that because you are poor, you won’t be able to get into any top colleges you want to go to. Many elite colleges will give full financial aid and cover all expenses to students who fall into your income range. The University of Virginia, for example, has one of the best financial aid programs in the US (even though it is public), and you’ll almost certainly have all your expenses paid.

I’m sure you might also be able to qualify for fee waivers (no application fees), so you should apply to any top school you want.

Bottom line is: It will not work against you that you are low income for college admissions. The fact that someone can excel especially coming from a low income family to me and definitely most others would be seen as a boost.
