<p>I just started my junior year and a week pasted. Would taking APs higher my chances? or taking regular class with high grades also be good?</p>

<p>i go to DeBakey HS health profession with only about 150 juniors.</p>
<p>About 85% of my graduating class will apply to UT-Austin, including myself (i’m in because of top 10% though) so I guess I know some about it.</p>
<p>I would say try your hardest to get into some AP classes. From what I’ve heard, I think UT would rather have low As in AP classes than high As in regular classes…but I might be wrong about that. Also, UT-Austin awards a lot of credit for AP tests, for example you can get hours even for scoring a 3 in some subjects (that is pretty lenient). So APs are definitely an advantage at UT-Austin.</p>

<p>self study for some AP’s and take them. Easiest to self study would be Statistics, Psychology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Biology. but if ur not in top ten pct then it will be quite hard for u to get into UT. also, do u know michael mccanna?</p>

<p>i don’t know who u r asking but i go to Bellaire HS. if you don’t know what IB is don’t worry about it. Its like AP but international.</p>
<p>IB is similar to AP but it is a rigorous program requiring other components in addition to end-of-year testing. Actually, it’s not really that much like AP, but I guess it’s irrelevant.</p>
<p>Cooldude11989 is definitely right about self-teaching. I was in IB Psychology last year and we only vaguely reviewed for the AP test about a week before it started and I got a 5 (I had been doing in-depth analysis and essay-writing all year, so I guess I SORT OF self-taught for the AP, not really though).</p>
<p>Maybe also you could take English Language self-teaching? If the English classes at your high school are tough, you might be OK with taking that test.</p>
