So, as you might know from the SB forum, I started looking at SB and most recently, Berkeley. Those are the only two UC’s which offer both Sanskrit and Arabic (althouh Berkeley does both a little more thoroughly), so of course, they immediately caught my attention. Plus, the GE requirement at SB wouldn’t take up my first two semesters, as it would at many other schools. Anyway, I’m a resident of CT so I don’t want to get all excited if I have no chance of being admitted. I know they’re extra selective of out-of-state applicants, so I just want to know how realistic an acceptance, at either school, would be. Anyway, my stats are as follows:

UC GPA: 4.0 (Pretty sure I did this the right way…I only weighed the AP classes, since I don’t think out of state honor classes are "recognized, a-g only)
SAT: 1970 (750V,570M,650W)
SAT II: 560M1700Bio,630Chem

I heard somewhere that majors play a role in UC admission, so just in case it’s true, I plan to major in Classics. I’m retaking the SAT (Shooting for a 700 in each section) in November, and Latin and Math1 in October. And although I don’t think public schools take minority status into account, I’m hispanic. Uhm, I don’t think I’m really missing anything…so what do you think? Do I really have a shot, especially at UCSB, or am I deluding myself? Thanks!

Crap, I realized that yesterday and completely forgot about it. Well, I have still have Biology and Chemistry, I just need another one (since they want two diff. subjects). Do you guys know if the December test date is too late for UC admissions? I was planning on taking Latin, but its only offered in December (and June, which doesn’t help). I don’t think Math is required, so as long as December is ok, I think I’ll do Latin and Biology. Also, Yen, what did you mean by “I’m not sure how impacted Classics is as a major.” Is that a good or bad thing, if it is “impacted”?

EDIT: According to the UC site, the December date is still acceptable, so that’s a relief.

An impacted major means that a lot of people want to study it. Thus, it’ll be harder to get in. I suppose it can be good/bad depending on what aspect you view it from.

its because lots of the Math IC is already on the new SAT I… seeing as he took 3 SAT IIs though, he should be fine, they only ask for 2. if you have more than 2 i think they just take your top 2 scores.
