Chances?

This entire college process has been very stressful for both my family and me. I was wondering if any viewers on this website could give me a good idea of how I look compared to everyone else. This is my first thread (ever) so please bear with me!!!

Side Note: My school is very competitive, we had a Siemens winner last year and 1 finalist/4 semifinalists this year.

High reach imo.

oh boy. that bad? is it my SATs?

Yeah your SAT is a little low for a school like this. You should try at Vanderbilt though. For some reason the acceptance rate of white Jewish people has increased dramatically in the last few years.

Duke held an information session at my school and said that they look at the writing section more than the reading section. And i did very well on Math and writing. the reading grade is what brought me down…

^^^ For some reason I don’t think that’s correct. Most top universities consider the Writing Section to be the least important of the 3.

i agree with you 100%. That is why when the admissions officer came to my school, i was so shocked and pleasantly surprised. After the lecture i had a great conversation with her and she seemed to like me a lot.

a higher SAT 1 and 2 scores would be great and give you a much better chance… and your ECs are good, but don’t show much leadership

eagle scout…^^

That’s only 1, I too am an eagle scout, but have served as spl, aspl, pl, den chief, troop guide, and chaplain’s aid of my troop. I was also president and vice president of my venture crew. I also was section leader twice in mg marching band. Etc. That is what he means when he talks about leadership.

Oh! My bad, in that case I have been SPL Twice, ASPL three times and Troop Guide 3 Times. I am currently a section leader in my Marching Band as well as the current Venture Crew Chief. As I stated above president of Tri-M and Jazz section leader… Would you recommend I put those things into my resume? I didn’t even realize that those should be added. (Thanks for the help Doberhound11)

There you go, I love how since we have simmilar activities, we also have simmilar leadership. I think that’s more of what he was going for. Yeah, put them on the resume. Lots of leadership helps one stand out in a competitive applicant pool.

Thank You!! This whole process has been very stressful, especially with all my friends getting into Ivys around me!

I bet, the best all my friends have gotten are lower state schools. I’m the only person in my school applying to harvard and MIT.

What are some more awards you have? Nice jazz reference by the way.

haha. Harvard and MIT!!! Way out of my league. There is one kid in my school who is going to get into Harvard no doubt (siemens winner, 2400, etc) Like i said in my thing above, i am in a very competitive school. I’m applying to UPenn and Dartmouth, but there are a lot of kids at my school who are. The only thing holding me down is my SAT (i think anyways…never could do well on the reading +700 everything else)… as for awards I have won? Well I am a scholar athlete (if that counts), but to be honest, I have never really won anything worth mentioning (Band Award in middle school? Little League MVP?..etc)

and thanks!! i’m glad to know there are other coltrane listeners out there
