Im scared cause i just got defered from case western…and i really want to go to BC…:((

Dear beerai : Case Western Reserve at around #40 in the USN&WR rankings is going to be seeking many of the same attributes as a Boston College at #30. While you SAT I two-way scores are fine, the writing, a less critical component, is slightly on the low side although certainly not a parameter for rejection. You class rank is about the Top 12% which for EA applications is an issue at Boston College based on prior years material here on College Confidential.

Your AP curriculum seems quite limited and our guess is that you did not take the most difficult curriculum possible at your High School. For Case in particular, a heavy Engineering school, the lack of Calculus/Physics/Chemistry in advanced course work is a major issue. For Boston College, even the liberal arts aspects of your AP program is limited.

Your extra curriculars includes no clubs, limited leadership in terms of running programs (golf aside), and only one sport from the three seasons of athletics available.

Perhaps your essay also was not as significant about how you will add to the college experience at a major university as you believe? Have you recently passed a critical eye over that same essay? Have you done a complete grammar/spelling review?

AP Courses taken: AP Economics, AP US History,AP Biology,(AP Calculus AB, AP US Government and Politics.)(Senior year) Taken Honors English all 4 years. Honors Math for 2 years. Then Alg 2 then AP. Im the president of MS Walk, the largest club in my school. Fundraising group “empower the children” (book keeper). I actually did take one of the hardest courses possible for my school. I had to talk to some high ranking people just to get 3 AP classes my junior year. My recommendations were awesome, and my essay i think was fabulous. Lol…

I think the only thing holding you back is your class rank. A lot of EA applicants that I’ve seen on here have been in the top like 5% or some craziness like that. Like top 10-20 in their class. But otherwise you’re a solid candidate. You never know!

yeah my rank is bad because we have a “academy” at our school that places emphasis on the sciences and they are allowed to take ap classes since freshman year. so their gpa is higher, my class rank is bad because those 25 people are in front of me…:(
