Chances

Ok, here are my stats:

Location: middle of nowhere, Virginia
gender: male
race: white
gpa: weighted 4.5 rank #1 (tied with one other person)

School: central virginia governor’s school, it’s not as well known as schools outside of DC or in California, but it’s a selective process to get in.

Courses: all the highest I could take, the governor’s school doesn’t offer “official” AP courses, but they are college level and receive the same weighting as AP’s. I think most colleges realize they are as hard as AP’s.

I’ve taken gov school Calc (includes AB and BC stuff) gov. school linear alg./vector calculus (this comes after their calc course). gov school bio, gov school physics, and 2 other courses that they give there: research class and senior technology seminar.

In the afternoon, I go to a regular public high school for my humanities courses: There I have taken AP Language, AP literature, AP Chem, AP US and comparative gov’t, AP U.S. history, and I took a French course at the local college because of schedule conflicts (I took the AP test)

(these are only my junior and senior year courses, my freshman and sophmore year classes were all honors because my high school didn’t offer AP for those grades)

I don’t know if this matters, but I have attended 3 different high schools because of family moving and other issues.

My scores on AP tests were only 4’s

SAT Scores: Math: 770 Verbal: 740 Writing: 800
SAT II’s: Math 2C:790 U.S. History: 750 Physics: 680

Extra Curriculars:
I’m into music, I’m currently in 2 youth orchestras and i’m 1st Oboe at one of them.
I used to be in another orchestra back when I lived in Florida. was also first oboe.
I’ve been in 2 internships, one through NASA SHARP (a very competetive program, only about 8% of applicants get in) and one through my school at a local engineering corporation.
I completed an independent research project and won third place in the regional ISEF competition in the botany division and also submitted it to the Virginia Junior Academy of Science.
umm…i’ve done math tutoring, i’m part of our FIRST Robotics team, i’ve been on the ALpha Mu Theta team, i used to give volunteer music lessons…etc. etc. etc.

My essays: one is VERY good and one is pretty good.
Recs: undoubtedly good, my teachers like me pretty much.

also, i don’t know if this helped, but I am a first generation college student on my biological dad’s side. He died when i was 5 and i was adopted by a new father, one who went to college.

I’d like to know my chances for Brown, Yale, Swarthmore…
I applied early to Stanford and got deferred.
