Chances?

Hi, I am finding it really difficult to objectively analyze my chances at different universities, so I thought that I would just throw my “stats” out there and see what all of you think! Just post what range of schools I could get into. Thanks!

unweighted GPA: 92%

PSAT score: 1460 (on the new scale, out of 1520)

AP classes (before graduation): Calculus AB and BC, Physics 1, Biology, Comp Sci A.

I’m also in the dual-degree PLTW biomedical program if that matters

Varsity Sports: track, soccer, skiing

Extracurricular: Model UN, School Newspaper, Robotics, Chinese club

Any input would be appreciated

You could be a competitive applicant for many schools (assuming you maintain the GPA and get a similar SAT/ACT score). Randomly listing examples is probably not the most productive way to do it. In addition to your stats there are a lot of other factors that shape where you can/should go:

  • Finances! How much will your parents put towards your education? Do you qualify for financial aid? Would you prefer to go somewhere free or very cheap? You’ll likely be eligible for merit aid at some schools.
  • Location (where you want to be and what state you’ll get in-state tuition for)
  • Size of school
  • Social scene
  • Intended major/area of study

Without an actual SAT/ACT score and grades through junior year it’s a bit hard to speculate. But try narrowing your ideal school qualities and then posting back when CCers can help you figure out schools that fit your criteria.
