Chances?

Some of my school choices are USC, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, Michigan, Occidental, and chapman. I am an Asian and will be a senior
Gpa: 3.5 UW/4.04 W (it’s shit I know. Almost 98% of my Bs came in first semester every yr, so far 2nd semester has been all As and one b)
Act: 33 writing: 10
Plan on doing sat chem and math 2.
Major intent: Business admin or law for grad
Ec:
Altar server (7 years) - candidate to become the leader as a senior
Football captain
Treasurer for a YMCA based club, leader in a city based club
Had experience teaching kids Korean at a weekend Korean school
Presidents award
Will participate in a weeklong business competition in the summer
Tutor for kids in English

I know I may not have a lot of ECs and my grades are low but just be as brutally honest as you can. I am not sure if applying to those places is even feasible because of my low GPA and that is the one factor that may mar my applications. Will good essays and letters of rec help compensate for a low GPA or will a low GPA get rejected almost immediately? Also my first semester of Jr yr, 3 of my As became b’s cause I had the flu, mild stroke, and high blood pressure a week before and during finals, so focusing was impossible. Should that be in the “extra information” category?

Your GPA is going to hurt you a lot at UMich which considers it as most important. Your ACT is fine. UMich would be a reach for you even if you are in state.

UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc
Neither UCSD or UCSB offer Business admin as a major and neither have a Business school.

So will a GPA that low get me rejected by those schools? Community college is out of the options for me cause I have the ap credit to get my ges knocked out.

The average admission uwGPA at UMich was 3.87 last year. It is extremely hard to get in if it is below 3.7. On the other hand, I don’t see how having AP credits to be in conflict with attending CC, although I am not saying you need to go to a CC. Some schools on your list may consider GPA as less important. Try to bring up your GPA this and the next semester. An upward trend may help.

@billcsho Yeah a lot of my B’s have come first semester when stuff often went wrong.

Nvm looks like it’ll drop to 3.49 UW. I’ll most likely go to CC, i don’t stand a chance getting into those places, even if I had a straight A senior year (sr classes are APES, Calc ab, AP psych, AP gov econ, and english 4)
