Chances

By the way, I think the OP’s SAT score is actually 2220, not 2200

When you very good stats like her’s, URM makes a significant difference. If she was 200 points lower, it would make much less of a difference.

MIT, georgetown and U chiacgo EA - If not all, at least two out of three 3 IN.

Columbia University - Slight Match/Match
Georgetown University EA - Safe Match
Harvard University - Slight Match
MIT EA - Match
NYU Stern - Safe Match
Northwestern University - Strong Match
UC Berkeley - Match
U Chicago EA - Strong Match
U Penn Wharton - Slight Match/Match

what is the dif between strong and safe match?

very strong applicant but i’m not sure how people are calling harvard and wharton matches and slight matches (low matches is what i’m thinking that means). She’s good, but Harvard and Wharton are high matches just b/c…they’re Harvard and Wharton! Don’t mislead people. But good luck to you OP.

U r most 90% in at all of those schools except U Penn Wharton, which i’d say about 50/50 chance. but remember, don’t screw up essays/recs/interviews cuz that 10% is still there
UCB, NYU, NW, UChicago can be good safeties

Columbia University - Match
Georgetown University EA - Safe Match
Harvard University - Slight Match
MIT EA - Match
NYU Stern - Safe Match
Northwestern University - Strong Match
UC Berkeley - Match
U Chicago EA - Strong Match
U Penn Wharton -Match

Decision: Accepted at Wharton!!!

Stats:
SAT: 2040 (670M 670V 700W)

GPA: (weighted) 98.85
Rank: 3/578
Other stats: 11 APs: (9th-11th): one 5 (spanish), three 4s (english, US hist, art hist), two 3s (euro hist, bio); taking 4 this year
Subjective:
Essays: I think they were pretty good
Teacher Recs: 1 very good, the other not so much
Counselor Rec: not sure, didn’t read it, but probably really good
Hook (if any): Hispanic?
Location/Person:
State or Country: NYC
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Female
Other Factors:[ul][] Extracurriculars: weak- Arista Honor Society (community service work mostly) 11th and 12th, Mock Trial and Leadership 12th. Have had a part-time job as Assistant teacher/tutor for the past 3 years.[] Why I think I was accepted/deferred:[li] Other thoughts: I’m still in shock… I was NOT expecting to get in. I almost applied to the CAS because I was so sure I didn’t have a chance at Wharton. [/ul]
[/li]

Judging by that person, you’ll get into Wharton. However, the admissions process can be tricky, so you never know.

Columbia University - Slight Match/Slight Reach
Georgetown University EA - Safe Match
Harvard University - Slight Reach
MIT EA - Match
NYU Stern - Safe Match
Northwestern University - Strong Match
UC Berkeley - Match
U Chicago EA - Strong Match
U Penn Wharton - Slight Match

Stop giving her false hopes you guys. While her credentials and hooks are good, the admissions process at HYPSM is so random that one can’t be as sure to label one as “MATCH” unless the poster has some internationally/nationally renowned EC. There URM’s with perfect scores and valedictorian status that get rejected from the Ivies. Check the results threads from these schools if you don’t believe me. However, I think the OP can get into a lot of the colleges she’s aiming for if she writes good essays and attains strong teacher recs that attest to her glowing personality, just like any other applciant can.

Columbia University - Reach
Georgetown University EA - Slight Reach/Match
Harvard University - Strong Reach
MIT EA - Slight Reach/Match
NYU Stern - Match
Northwestern University - Match
UC Berkeley - Match
U Chicago EA - Slight Reach/Match
U Penn Wharton - Reach

you have EXCELLENT chances. personally, i’d think you can get in anywhere. by all means good luck! i know you’ll end up at a great school! :-)

evilasiandictator, I’m sure it’s true that URM valedictorians with perfect scores are rejected from HYPSM, but I couldn’t find any examples of those types of people on the results threads. Any examples?

Columbia University - Slight Match/Slight Reach

You’re nuts. I bet she is rejected by MAYBE 2 schools on this list. MAYBE. Could get accepted to every single one.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys!
