Chances!

Hi, I’m a hopeful Yalie who’d like to have some input on her chances at being admitted. Here are my stats:

SATI: 780 (M), 750 (CR), 770 (W)
SATII: 800 (Math IIc), 770 (Biology E)
APs: 5 (US History), 5 (Biology), 4 (English Language)
GPA: 4.2
School: very competitive public (764 students per class)

ECs:
President of FCCLA
Team Leader of Varsity Girls Cross Country
Section Editor of school newspaper
Activities Organizer for political organization
Exec Board member of Orchestra, First Violin
Model UN
NHS, FHS, MHS

Oh yes, and I’m an Asian female

Congrats to all accepted SCEA though !

What exactly does a “Team Leader” of Varsity Girls Cross Country do and what exactly does FCCLA stand for??

FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America, EAD.

Your SAT scores are in Yale’s range, and your SAT II scores are good, but you need to take one more SAT II (you have to have 3 total). Statistically, however, it seems to be that Asians are judged on a much more competitive level, so I’m not really sure how they compare.

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted? I’m guessing that it’s weighted, and it looks okay.

You show diversity with the Cross Country and First Violin, but overall your EC’s don’t look that impressive. It’s a short list you’ve got there – maybe if you could explain to Yale on your application somewhere just how extensive your duties are as FCCLA president, etc. And you need to be more specific. By just saying “Activities Organizer for ‘political organization’”, it makes it seem like you’re stretching the truth to make it sound more impressive. Whether or not you are, you just need to specify on all of your ECs. It will put them in a better light for the admissions officers, I believe, if you are up-front with them. That way, they have no doubt as to whether or not you are putting yourself out of proportion, and I think they would like to see the real you.

??? violin = diversity??? i couldn’t disagree more

I think he means diversity in that you do both sport and music to a high level, as appose to playing 3 varsity sports and having no music other than 3rd triangle in the 5th grade nativity play.

EAD, maybe she means team captain, or maybe manager? I’ve never heard of “team leader,” sounds funny.

I’ve taken 3 SATIIs…I omitted my SATII US History (740) by accident

And I’m not elaborating on my activities here on CC because I’m still a bit paranoid on the internet about someone possibly knowing my true identity. There is a specific national political organization and editor position and such, but I don’t care to really specify.

A Team leader is akin to a captain

you have chance 50%

Will you submit your CD?
