your gpa pretty much ruined everything…

super reach/reach?

DOnt worry about it… I got in with a 3.6 and im sure u have a great chance.
… just Focus on your personal statement. and your fine…besides… Grades dont show who you are…

what were ur SATs XiCanoYqUe if you don’t mind sharing?

Nah… dont mind… 1700 … and 12 on the essay…

subject tests…english=700
Math=650
Spanish=800
…My scores are not what got me into all of the UC’s…(trying not to sound conceded)… but i encourage all incoming applicants to work hard on their personal statements…because thats what Universities look at the most. and that is what seperates you from every one else… Lets face there are a **** load of individuals who are book smart… but what UC’s lack are individuals who add diversity and character to their campus. …

that’s true. thanks XiCANOQue!
UCSD is my #1 school. guess i’m going to work realy hard on those personal statements.

Although personal statements are important for most universities, it is definitely not true for UCSD, since UCSD is on a point system… But since all the UCs get the same essays, you should do well on them all the same… But anyway, the link below details UCSD’s admission process, and the point breakdown is at the very bottom.

<a href=“Current Students”>Current Students;

The funny thing about UCSD is that grades tell a very large amount of the story… Most of the story, actually.

As for the original post, your chances aren’t too bad, especially if you crank out some good scores on the subject tests.

And is your GPA weighted or unweighted?? Either way, you should still try to raise in however much time you have left. I don’t know if its a guarantee or anything, but you have a pretty good shot.

well beware0fnerd makes some good points. but raising your gpa now won’t affect anything. assuming you’re a senior. uc’s don’t see your senior grades until summer, so as long as you meet the provisional contract, you’re fine.

i don’t think GPA or SAT count the much…3.3 here and sorry sat scores (like low) , lol. And Im all set to go to UCSD…um praying helps…it help me here.

Rudy, you seem to think that because you’re one of the VERY FEW people who was admitted to UCSD with a low GPA and SAT score, you have this incentive to preach to prospective students that a 3.3 GPA and low SAT score is all they need to get into UCSD. In reality, UCSD’s admissions standards are much higher than a 3.3 GPA + whatever SAT score you got… Especially if you consider the fact that UCSD’s admissions policy is pretty much determined by a point system… Oh and let’s not forget the very little emphasis they place on personal statements. I am not saying that UCSD does NOT admit ANYONE with a GPA say lower then 3.6 because if I did, you would disprove that theory. I think you’re giving a lot of people false hope (I’ve seen a number of replies where you said something like “I got a 3.3 and low SAT score, just pray and you’ll get in!”) and you have to understand that UCSD doesn’t admit everyone who got a 3.3 and a low SAT score as the averages for both the GPAs and the SATs would be much MUCh lower if they did. There was obviously something UCSD saw in you.

Yeah… According to the collegeboard website, 17% of freshman admits have a 3.5-3.74 and 4% have below a 3.5… Although it is possible to get in with a lower GPA, it severely lowers your chances…

But cr, don’t the UCs get mid-year grades?? I honestly don’t remember anymore…

only if they ask for them. like berkeley sends out questionnaires if you’re on the border of getting accepted to find out how you’re doing senior year…but other than that they don’t see until after
