I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. Make sure you research the University a lot, and find out as much as you possibly can.

The University cares a lot about and prides itself in the uncommon essays. Don’t worry too much about looking good. Why did you just join NHS in 12th grade? I suspect that you do that just to look good, and that’s not good. Really, the University just wants you to do something and develop it, rather than watch TV all day everyday.

You should try to show that you really care about the University and that you really want to go, and that should be reflected in your research, essay, and perhaps talking to students at U. Chicago, and visiting if there’s time.

Let me say though, that I don’t go to U. Chicago, I’m just really interested in it. You could look at the post “Questions about U. Chicago” and other posts.

You post way too many chance threads, I think, and it seems like you’re too worried about looking good.

I think that if you truly love the school, you would find out as much info as you can, do well on the essays, and not worry about looking good. And really, if you truly love the school, you would apply, whatever your chances are.

how do uw ant me to show how much i care for the school… it’s a chances thread… you post your stats and people give you opinions on how good they think your chances are… also, why would i not try to look good on my application?

UChicago is not for everybody, so if you want to go, you should make sure that it’s right for you. There are a lot of smart people with good grades and good scores who would not be a right fit for the school for a variety of reasons. Chicago is an academically intense school where students tend to put their work first, and for many visiting students, it seems too dull or academically super-charged to be enjoyable. (The students who attend, though, enjoy the academic intensity and know how and when to shrug it off). Chicago students are also pretty non-traditional-- you don’t see many designer clothes on campus, nor are students careerist.

From the profile you’ve given, I have no idea whether you’d like the school or not, and your chances of admission depend pretty heavily on whether you want to be specifically at the University of Chicago or whether you are just looking for a generic, highly-ranked school.
