Pitt seems to be getting more competitive each year. Here is a freshman profile. [University of Pittsburgh: Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid](http://www.pitt.edu/~oafa/stats.html)

Class rank will hurt you a LOT; ACT seems decentish

does rank hurt me that much despite there only being 183 in my class? i’ve seen people with a similar gpa to mine and they were in the top 15%.

Here’s more detailed info from the Common Data Set. If you click on section C and scroll down you’ll find a breakdown of class rank. I doubt that class size makes too much of a difference in how they look at rank, though the rigor of your school might be a factor.
