Chances?

I’m a middle class Egyptian/Turkish descent male.

SAT I: 2340
760CR, 780M, 800W
(retaking in dec for regular decision)

SAT IIs:
750 Math I
740 Math II
650 Lit
760 Chem
(retaking lit/math II/chem)

Courseload: Challenging (AP calc, stats, and chem).

GPA: 3.73W
Rank: top 10%

AP exams: results pending, I’ll post tomorrow. But I took 7, so I did a lot of independent studying.

ECs:

professional level guitarist

author of several 3D video games (I programmed them myself, totally self-taught)

tutoring of various subjects (math, chemistry, and computer science)

Chance me, please, for:

Stanford
MIT
Boston University
Boston College
RPI
Caltech
Brown

Feel free to be brutal.

AP scores come tomorrow? That would be so nice. I am sick of waiting for them.

Could I have a link to your video games/previews of them/something? I would love to check them out.

As for the actual chancing, I am not so experience at this, but from what I can tell, Egyptian/Turkish is URM. This vastly increases your chances, I would say, especially considering your SAT scores. Obviously, by most standards on CC, your ECs are weak. But they are also focused, and authoring video games should be impressive. Basically the only problem I can see is your GPA, which isn’t so great at a 3.73 weighted. Good AP test scores and your URM status should ameliorate the negative effect, though.

Stanford, MIT, CIT, Brown are reaches, since they are for everyone. You are competitive, though.

Is RPI this? I would say match to high match.

I am not familiar enough with the two Boston schools to chance you accurately.

AP scores came in:

Calc BC - 3 (AB: 5) <– I didn’t take calc BC class, though.
Chem - 5
Stats - 5
English Language - 5 <---- self study
Lit - 4 <— self study
Comp. Sci. A - 3 < ---- self study

Why on earth are you retaking your SATs? Really, I mean, there’s no point.

If you retake SAT you’re no longer smart. I don’t think there is any issue with any of your AP test scores especially considering that they were self study. Obviously all other scores are very good. Without a comprehensive outline of your EC’s its hard to say that you’re in at sure for any school except for your safeties. As I see it your EC’s are too weak to give you a great shot at any top top schools, but your scores might pull you through.

Oh no, you missed one or two on each section on the SAT!

Honestly, don’t retake it. Admission officers are obviously intelligent people who understand that people are not robots and make mistakes. It’s hard to beat a 2340, that is pretty much perfect and you are wasting your time if you retake it.

Evaluating ECs quantitatively is stupid, but that is a rant for a different thread.

Nice job on the AP scores, though, considering they were mostly self-study.

So did you change your mind about the SAT? YOur response in the other thread indicates so.

I did…but I AM retaking math2, lit, and chem.

You shouldn’t retake Chem, as it is a hard-enough test compared to…say physics and you should look at the percentile. 750+ is good enough, especially for chem. I don’t know about mathIIC as curve is easier.

That seems like a much more prudent use of your money.

That being said, you should just go for retaking Math II and Lit, especially Lit. The 760 on Chemistry looks fine.
