I used to live in Texas and attended a highly regarded school.
I was ranked 3/950sih.

Now, I attend Karachi American School (only for my senior year)

I already have two amazing recommendations. Seriously, recommendation letter wise, they don’t get much better than this. One is from my old principal.

EC’s
- I started a “Schools for Schools” club at my school that has now raised over $20,000 to rebuild Pabbo Secondary School in northern Uganda. My recs explain how this helped completely change the apathetic culture of our school and how big a part it has become.
- Eagle Scout - started a library for a school in Karachi, collected and donated over 2000 books (also ran our troop for like a year)
- Varsity Tennis 3 years on a state ranked team, won the coaches award
- 2 years for Key Club (community service) with leadership
- completed 10 years of saturday religious school (7 hours every week)
- nominated to represent my school in a region wide leadership conference
- Science Olympiad 2 years with state recognition

Community service is 300+ easily. Probably closer to 500.

Places I am looking into:
HYPS
MIT
Dartmouth
Amherst
Duke
Hamilton
Swarthmore

just give me your link and i’ll chance you back

To be honest, your resume looks great! However, to be competitive for MIT and Dartmouth, you are going to need 700+ on each section of the SAT. Just retake it and try for a better score. Duke is probably a low reach and I don’t know a lot about the others. G/L! Please chance me!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/541132-rising-sophomore-but-chance-please-ivies.html

sorry, dude, but your thread title is just a little too crude…
but i’ll rate you anyway
depending on how well you emphasize your community service activities, i think you’re basically in everywhere, and at least one of the hyps. so ur essays are important, especially since your stats, to be honest, are mediocre…especially if you’re azn

HYPS: Super Reach
MIT: Super Reach
Dartmouth: Reach
Amherst: Reach
Duke: Reach
Hamilton: Safe Match
Swarthmore: Reach

Academically, you’re strong though your ACT > SAT I. SAT IIs are good, but you have to take a science for MIT. ECs are decent there’s leadership, but nothing that will blow an adcom away. Even more pressing is that you need more safety/match schools. I’d suggest places like NYU, Northwestern, Wash U, U Texas as your safety since they have that 10% rule.

G/L

Send in the ACT, not the SAT 1. The ACT looks much better.

Harvard: 30%
Yale: 40%
MIT: 45%
Dartmouth: 60%
Amherst: 60%
Duke: 65%
Hamilton: In
Swarthmore: 65%

You should be very competitive for Dartmouth, Amherst, Duke, and Swat (prob get into half of them or more). You might get into one or more of HYPSM but its up in the air.

I would consider applying to Middlebury - need blind international admissions, great international aid, better than Hamilton, you’ll get in.

heyy
thanks everyone for the chances
i am now looking into middlebury as well
and i can’t not send SAT I, because i have to send my subject tests and it all gets sent together
any other takers?
sorry if the thread title offended anyone, i regret it now

buuuuuuuuuump - any takers?

I think you stand a good chance for all of them. What I think really stands out for you is the “schools for schools” and the fact that it changed the atmosphere of your school. This is the kind of leadership those schools look for. You’re also very strong academically. You don’t have to retake the SAT; for places like MIT the 680 CR is acceptable; they like high math score.
Good luck!

hey thanks man. I know it seems like a small deal but my recs will really bring it out. I’m just not rich enough to waste 52 dollars on another sat so I’m just going to gut it out, and hope they take my act into more account. Thanks!

HYPSM= Reach-they are so unpredictable
Dartmouth= slight reach maybe match 60%
Amherst= slight reach maybe match 60%
Swarthmore= in
Hamilton= in
Duke= slight reach maybe match 55%
Good luck, and as the others said, take a science sat2 and you will be set
Thanks for the chance =)

HYPS - you have a fair shot, but they’re reaches, as they are for everyone
MIT - reach (again, because of the really low acceptance rate)
Dartmouth - low reach
Amherst - match
Duke - good chances
Hamilton - match
Swarthmore - match

Your GPA’s good, your ACT is good, and SAT IIs are good. You’ve apparently taken challenging classes and have done really well in them as well on AP exams that test your knowledge in the subjects.

You’re a strong candidate.

i agree completely with everything Ashraf Eassa said, so there’s no need for me to retype it all
you have an excellent chance at duke and you definitely should get into 1 of HYPS

thanks for chancing me too

thanks guys. any more comments?
