I know a lot of people do this so it must be tiring, but…
-I am ranked 1/350 at Exeter, a fairly prestigious school in NH.
-I have a 2400 on my S.A.T.s and and a 36 on the A.C.T.
-I will be a first generation college student, I am an immigrant from St. Lucia.
-I am a black, bisexual, female.
-I was kicked out of my old school, Andover, for smoking pot.
-I have almost no extra-curricular activities that I do, though I did join the fencing team this year.

I really would like to go to Harvard because my boyfriend goes there. But if that is out of reach I am personally most interested in going to Williams, or maybe Olin College for engineering. Does anyone have any idea how I might do?

If so, your rank, biographical status, scores, give you a chance. However, I predict that you won’t be accepted to Williams because getting kicked out of a school (Andover, no less) for smoking pot is almost as bad as it gets, and trumps things like URM or first-gen. I know a girl like you who applied to Wesleyan (went to private school, was Latina, ranked first and had tons of ECs) was rejected solely for that reason, even though she admitted it outright in an essay.

Lastly, going to incredible private schools and no ECs? Not a competitive candidate.

I don’t know about the good private colleges you mentioned, I don’t think you’d get in because of the pot and no EC thing. But almost all public colleges would accept you becuase they focus a lot more on stats, which you are excellent in. There are lots of excellent public universities- try there!

You would have stood a great chance but getting kicked out of a school for that offense puts a dent in your application. You could write an amazing essay if you learned something from it. Getting kicked out of school and having no extra-curriculars pretty much gets you rejected from some place like Harvard. But you should still apply, and try other selective schools.

Wow entomom you keep careful track of what people say, haha! I used to attend PA outside of Boston so I know the situation. But up here at PE we are only about 50 miles from Boston and we play each other in sports and are competitive with each other.
