I’m a white female from New York. I moved from Houston, TX when I was 13 if it matters. I go to a high-ranking public HS. They don’t rank students, but my counselor’s guess is that I’m in the top 7%.

I’ve pretty much taken the most rigorous courses offered (a lot of honors, 6 APs total assuming I don’t drop any next year). Thus far, I’ve gotten one B in high school (88 in Physics).

I want to major in either linguistics or int’l relations.

just so you know, there is no actual linguistics major at midd. students who opt to study linguistics are forced to have self-designed majors. there are a few linguistics courses offered, which i think in combination with a language or so makes a “linguistics major” at midd, but i’m really not sure. for those who aren’t motivated enough to think our their own course of study, midd isn’t the best place for linguistics – at least for now. people seem to like to think that this might change in the next few years, but who knows.

I think your chances are excellent, especially if your essays are good and you have good recommendations. If you really like Middlebury, then I’d recommend applying early decision.

thanks for the help.

and isn’t middlebury famous for its foreign language departments? keeping in mind that foreign language and linguistics are not the same, i still find it baffling that they don’t have a linguistic major.

It’s kind of funny… I’ve heard that the self-designed Linguistics major is more popular than some of the existing majors.
