HOWEVER

two SAT’s: 1890, 2000

My scores aren’t too stellar. Science is not my forte.
Do I still have a chance?
Besides grades what else should I work on senior year?
Tips on The Essay?

I’m not going to say you have absolutely NO Chance, but you will definitely need a 2350+ and high 700s-800 on subject tests if you want to have any chance at getting in with your GPA. Also, you should try to show more passion in your EC’s.

your uncle is a professor in the music dept? that could help. I would say shoot for straight As from now on and retake the SAT shooting for a 2200+ and you would have a good shot

^Xargon, I’m not sure having an uncle who teaches at Stanford is, in and of itself, much of a help. I’m under the impression that recommendations from current faculty would be given weight only to the extent that the faculty member could meaningfully attest to the applicant’s abilities or qualifications on some objective basis. I agree that the OP could use some better grades and test scores, and would recommend she also bring her interest in the arts into clear focus in her essays. (And yes, OP, fish-out-of-water story is pretty trite unless there is some unique denouement involved.)

I think the fact that the OP has a lot of interest in music with a lot of activities could mean that an uncle as a prof in the music dept. would be a help. if that makes sense…haha

Your extracurriculars are commendable and if you have topics for your essays that show the type of person you are that would really help a lot. The essays and letters of recommendation help a lot and can make up for scores that are not so stellar. You have a chance and if you keep improving and it shows with your grades from first semester of senior year then I think you’ll be in the hunt. Aiming for a high SAT is good but don’t worry if you don’t get it, it’s not the end of the world there’s a lot of kids here at Stanford that got in, including myself, with a score lower than 2000. Best of luck
