Chances.

Schools:
UC Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
U Chicago
Cornell
GA Tech
Johns Hopkins
Michigan
Northwestern
Rice

Reaches (though none of them are my first choices):
Columbia
MIT
Princeton
Stanford

GPA: 4.33, 2nd in class; I’ve taken APUSH, AP Euro Hist, AP Physics C NM, AP Calc AB, AP Comp Sci A, AP Spanish Lang, AP English Lang

I have gotten all A’s (a couple of A-'s; do the colleges differentiate between A’s and A-'s?). I’ve also gotten one B+ (AP Comp Sci, we had a TERRIBLE teacher and everyone failed the final). Also, one reason for the B+ and an A- in Ap Spanish was because I had a prolonged illness Spring of Junior year which I will include in the app.

SAT (taken twice):
Math: 710/780
Reading: 660/630
Writing: 710/730

AP Scores:
USH-5
Calc AB-5
Physics C NM-4 (though probs a very high 4!!!)
Euro Hist-4
Eng Lang-5

SAT Subject:
USH-750
Math 2-670
Math 1-700
Physics-700

EC:
founded Young Republicans Club
founded Physics Club
local campaigns
internship at Drexel University Plasma Medicine Lab
Scholars Bowl Captain
Varsity Tennis
I’ve placed several times at National History Day Competitions, and Science Fairs
Bausch and Lomb Science Award
National Merit Scholar
Dual Citizen-USA and Finland

I can write good essays and get excellent recommendations. Now I know my Subject test scores are low, I’m going to try to get Physics and Math 2 above 750. And my reading score on the SAT is a bit low, I’m taking a prep class. However, this indicates that I’m not a great test taker during high pressure and short time, not a weakness in my curriculum.

Besides those things, though, how do I stack up, esp. at the ones in the first category. I expect my chances are slim at the reaches, though that’s okay because my favorite schools were Chicago, Berkeley, and Northwestern.

Why would you spend the time on all of those supplements for big reach schools if none of them are top choices?

You have very good shot at Berkeley, CMU, Michigan. But you’ll have to be full pay for these (unless you’re in state at one of the state schools).

I don’t think your reach chances are that slim. Your ECs are great; you have a lot of leadership. However, your low test scores are indicative to some extent of your curriculum rigor. Try to get them higher. Except for that your application looks solid. Good luck.
