Chancing me for PhD program in biomed Engr or Chemial&biomolecular Engr ?

I m pretty sure some of you know me from other forums, but I will just write my info as a courtesy.

I am Chem. E B.S. senior at University of Alabama with double minors in Spanish and Mathematics My current GPA is 3.597/4.0 and hope to at least keep it that way until I graduate this December.

EDIT: I am still navigating my exact research focus in grad school, but I definitely want to do something that can contribute to medicine. I have had to give up on my medical school dream because of cost and time consumption, but that doesn’t mean I also gave up on contributing to medicine. I am thinking about engineering biomaterials and/or medicine. Nanofiber is used in medical field for example, just not my 2nd research’s topic.

GRE: QV: 161 (88%) QT: 167 (88%) WR: 4.0(66%). Don’t plant to take another GRE.

Research experience: Participated in two different researches. One in alloy chemistry(electrochemical research) and another in electronically spun nano-fiber. I am in good terms with my 2nd research’s grad student and there is a great chance that I will be a co-author. Attended University Research and Creative Activity Conference to showcase my 1st research(no award or anything but I think it was a valuable experience for me).

Work experience: Unpaid intern at hospital as Sterilization Lab and University research lab assistant in the past. Currently working as a student office assistant.

Misc: Full tuition scholarship(Presidential) + Engineering scholarship(1250 per sem). Speaks English/Korean/Spanish. International student with F1 visa.

Schools I am definitely applying to:

University of Alabama-chemical Engineering(safety net? I don’t like how small our school chem .E department is but I want to make sure I have somewhere to go)

University of North Texas Denton - PhD in Materials Science Engineering with concentration of biomaterial. I went there for a graduate preview and I really liked it.

North Carolina State - Biomedical Engr.

Cornell: Food Science(yeah…I mean, I am interested in food and how it reacts when it’s cooked and processed but I have zero research exp in that because no one is doing it in my dept. But I like cooking)

Schools I am considering to add for Biomed engineering: CMU/U Wisconsin/NE, Purdue
schools I am considering to add for CHem. E: CMU/U Wisconsin/Penn State/Columbia.

I am still researching more about schools, so the list is tentative.

Have you looked up papers published by researchers in that department? Because it doesn’t sound like you’re too familiar with the field and that would be something to remedy before you apply (or even decide to apply).

@bodangles No. but I m def. looking it up soon. But isn’t food science about understanding the food processing and nature of food in physical/chemical perspective? I

It’s not my field either, so I don’t know – it was just that “I like cooking” rang some alarm bells for me as a reason for going to graduate school for it.
