Hey guys I was wondering whether or not you guys could help me out with some schools. I have narrowed my search down to a couple universities.

DUKE
UCLA
UCSD
BU
USC

Soph. Year

0 p.e.
AP European History
Spanish II
AP Human Geography
Honors Biology
English 10
Algebra 2

First Semester GPA was 3.4 unweighted, weighted…3.8.

Second Semester GPA 3.8 unweighted, weighted…4.28
I also took Chemistry and Trigonometry at a local college and passed both classes with an A.
Junior Year
Pre Calculus/ AP Calculus AB
AP US History
AP Computer Science
H English
AP Chemistry
H Spanish III

First Semester: 3.8 unweighted, 4.66667 weighted (Round to 4.7?)
Second Semester…the same thing

SAT: 2155

I would appreciate it if you guys could help me out!! Thanks.

i think that u r probably going to have to get ur SAT score up a little higher, try shooting for a 2200 or so. It is just that those schools are pretty competitive so the higher that score is, the better. I applaud u for taking the initiative of taking classes @ local colleges, not only does it advance u in school, but it looks good on ur app. All in all I think that you are a good canidate. What r ur ECs like?

well…maybe a little but I have taken the SAT and scored a 1900 and I am just trying to see where I need to score in order to be safe, but all the rest of my stats are true…I guess 1900 isn’t bad on the SAT considering I have only taken it once and I will be taking it over again this march. But my Gpa and other stats are all right, I forgot to mention my EC’s.

EC’s
400 hours community service at Holy Cross Medical Center in the transport department
400 hours community service in Ararat Armenian retirement home
I don’t know if just only these two ec’s are enough, I was thinking of joining a few clubs just to beef my ec’s up a bit.

Now that I have mentioned my ec’s, considering I have stellar essays and recs, what do you guys think of my chances to my choices of universities?

Also, a non-related question: Does Duke have a decent medical school?

DUKE: Reach-Large Reach
UCLA: Slight Reach-Reach (in state)
UCSD: Slight Reach (in state)
BU: Safe Match-Match
USC: Slight Reach

For UCLA and UCSD, if you could compute your UC GPA (capped weighted GPA for soph jr years) i could give you better odds since those are the numbers the UC’s look at. Also if i could know if you were in state for the UC’s that would also help greatly.

Yes I am in state…I live about 20 minutes away from both USC and UCLA. I don’t really know how to calculate my UC GPA…I was wondering does Duke and BU offer a medical program?

1900+4.xx would give you a match at sd i personally think…
and if you raise yo score up to maybe 2100?? i would say match for la…depending on yo sat2s…

the difference between ucla and ucsd’s admit numbers are no where near 200 sat points. a 1900 and 4.0 is likely a slight reach into ucsd. and a reach into ucla. bring up the gpa to a 4.1, and ucsd would likely become a match and ucla would become a slight reach. ucsd’a average admit is around a 1940 sat and 4.04 gpa. ucla is a 2010 sat and a 4.12 gpa. rememeber uc’s calculate sat scores by using the single sitting method, which deflates scores over many others schools which use multiple sitting methods, which creates higher sat scores.
