I’m looking for suggestions on what I should do.

I have had the same accountant for 15+ years. We have several businesses, including rentals/LLP andCorporations, so things are reasonably complicated. I like my accountant, she’s convenient to my office and price is very reasonable. Unfortunately, the people who work under her who do the routine stuff (941, W-2 etc) are prone to making mistakes. I catch things maybe twice a year but I’m sure there is stuff I don’t catch.

Today, I found out that she/they made a mistake on my 2012 W-2 (I own the corp that employs me) that will now result in $8,000 tax payment. She didn’t even bother to tell me herself but had the receptionist hand me a letter to IRS saying here’s the $8,000 check for the underpayment. I was told if I had any questions, she would be available this afternoon for me to call.

There have been other instances where she ‘forgot’ to tell us things, like that we’d overcontributed to a SEP IRA, until it was too late to change it easily and cleanly.

I’m thinking I need to change accountant but with all our stuff, that’ll end up being pretty complicated.

Suggestions?
