Change in schedule question, guh

Hey guys, I recently dropped my spanish 2 class because I discovered I do not need it to fullfill IGETC. How do I inform the campus’s I applied to that my schedule has changed but it would not affect IGETC eligibility? Did you guys email the offices or call them about the schedule change?

Also, does anyone have the admission office numbers for the UC’s? I can’t seem to find them anywhere.

Thanks!

Did you fulfill the foreign language req? Because, you need at least two years to transfer to a UC.

aww how sweet <3

this is why i keep coming back to this joint, nice kids helping other kids out. CC love <3

For UCSD you can e mail the change and explain: academicchanges@ad.ucsd.edu

One point of clarification: You need either an introductory, college level course (i.e. Spanish 101 or French 101) or two years of high school level courses. The poster above is incorrect on that (forget the screen name). This is confirmed from both UC and my CC counselors.

@ bayareatransfer, wow really? my cc counselor told me I had to take arabic 2 in addition to arabic 1 to fulfill the whole two year lang thing. thanks for the insight!

What CC do you go to? Specifically for IGETC, Area 6 a student needs either two years in high school or completion of an intro. language course. Here’s my CC (Ohlone College) and a few others to give you an idea of what I’m talking about:

http://www.ohlone.edu/org/currguides/current/docs/20092010geplanchart-c.pdf</a></p>

“Area 6: Proficiency equivalent to two years in high school study in the same language or one of the following” is what it states. Here’s a couple more:

[Coastline Community College - Option III?Transfer Plan for IGETC (CSU or UC) A.A. Degree Program (Liberal Arts)](http://www.coastline.edu/degrees/page.cfm?LinkID=345)

[Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)](http://www.smc.edu/catalog/2007_2008/033_catalog_part_1.htm)

These indicate the same thing. In any case, glad to clear that up.

EDIT: One thing that could explain it though: An intro course at one community college may be different than one at a different college. For example, perhaps at Ohlone one course covers all the requirements whereas at your college you have to do both classes to satisfy the same requirements

One other thing: I just took a look at Pasadena City College’s IGETC requirements (I’m assuming this is where you go?) Your counselor is correct that PCC requires Arabic 2 to be completed to count as your foreign language requirement, according to this:

[Pasadena City College - Transfer Center - IGETC Requirements](<a href=“Which PCC Courses will Transfer? - Transfer Center - Pasadena City College”>Which PCC Courses will Transfer? - Transfer Center - Pasadena City College)

However, here at Ohlone, only the first semester is required. This is what I have been told on multiple occasions. For obvious reasons, I wouldn’t be able to clarify about Pasadena’s specific requirements.

I went there and, all I have to say is i envy you lol. I do apologize for any confusion!

No worries; I was doing a little more research just to reassure myself and I found this on the UC website ( http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/transfer/advising/igetc.html</a> )

“Complete a course or courses at a college or university with a grade of C or better in each course. Any course (excluding conversation courses) considered by the college or university to be equivalent to two years of high school language may be used. Many college catalogs list the prerequisite for the second course in a language as: Language 1 at this college, or two years of high school language. In this case Language 1 clears both years of the requirement”.

The important part of this is where it states that, “Language 1 clears both years of the requirement”. That is how it is at Ohlone College. Just a little more info for anyone who might need to read this now or in the future!
