Changing College in UCSD

Hi all,
I recently was accepted to UCSD as a transfer student, Econ major, Sixth College. I made a grave mistake by overlooking the importance of choosing a college. I did not know each college would have its own graduation requirements and any way I look at it, the Sixth College’s req is not for me. Rather, being in Muir would help me move efficiently towards graduation.
While I deeply regret my actions, I’d like to ask the helpful College Conf. community if there is any way I can do to change my college to Muir. Thanks.

Generally, no.

You can always call and ask.

If you can show that you can graduate earlier by switching colleges, you can trying petitioning UCSD to change your college. Definitely try though. No harm in asking.

@luckie1367 @81mamba Wait! I found this info on their website.

“Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is a series of California community college courses that meet UC San Diego lower-division general education (GE) requirements at UC San Diego’s Muir, Marshall, Roosevelt, Sixth and Warren colleges.”
Source: http://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfers/prep-programs/

Does this mean IGETC satisfies Sixth’s GE requirement? Can you be my second set of eyes and interpret this for me?

there are still upper division requirements that are needed, even if you complete the IGETC.

look at this link: http://issuu.com/ucsandiego/docs/colleges_082212?e=5498722/2621105

@futureuclabruin1 That is a great info. Thank you.

@sliceoflife24‌ no problem.

Above posters are correct.

IGETC will cover your lower division (LD) grad requirements, but you may need to take some upper division (UD) courses as well. It just depends on the college.

I had talked to a UCSD rep, and he said transfers can change colleges only if another student from the college you want to go to wants to change to the college you are currently in, basically switch colleges.
